BMW’s first F1 test with Williams (video)

Somewhat oddly, BMW chose to accompany the news of their imminent departure from F1 with this video showing their first shakedown test in 1999.

The car was driven at Miramas in France by Jorg Muller, who is now a BMW touring car racer. It was a 1998 Williams chassis fitted with a BMW engine.

The BMW-Williams partnership fizzled out after six years and ten Grand Prix wins. BMW may have beaten Williams to the next Grand Prix win, but Williams are sticking around and haven’t given up yet.

  1. Seems they’re getting sentimental…

  2. And we can see some Renault (Clio) in the back (on a train) …

  3. Look at that jumper that the engineer is wearing! Grey apostrophes – very stylish!

  4. Williams are sticking around and haven’t given up yet.

And have built a much better car this year too!!

Strange time to release the video, unless BMW are signalling that they will return to being an engine supplier . . .

    1. They didn’t release the video now. I saw it in 1999. But they “chose to accompany the news of their imminent departure from F1 with this video”.

Btw, godly sound at around the 1:00 mark.

It’s Miramas in France which is a BMW owned test track.
