Robert Kubica reveals new helmet design

Robert Kubica will use a new helmet design having switch teams from BMW to Renault in 2010.

The Pole’s helmet is now painted in yellow and black colours to match Renault’s livery.

New team mate Vitaly Petrov also showed off his helmet design at Renault’s launch today. He will use a design much the same as the one he had in GP2 last year, with ‘Russia’ emblazoned across the top of his visor.

Have a look at the Renault drivers’ helmets in the pictures:

  1. I like Petrov’s more. I really find it pointless and lacking imagination when drivers just stick to team colours. I know it’s their helmets and a little issue but it really winds me up lol

      Agreed.

      1. I’d wear a yellow and black helmet if they gave me a drive – but I’m cheap like that…

    2. It looks good who cares what colors are on it? It is the same as last year with different colors what is the deal?

      1. Totally agree,I think they should never change their helmet colour as now it will be tough for us to spot them easily.

    3. I quite like the idea actually, Jenson’s fluorescent helmet last year was awesome

      1. I don’t have a problem with the designs it’s just nice for fans to be able to easily spot their driver. One of the things I love about Massa is he sticks to the same design (there are a few tweks every year but basically the same). It gives it more identity and if they want different designs then the best way to do it is like Vettel, least his are are fun.

      2. Sadly, I disagree with you, George.

Yes, Jenson’s helmet stood out, but I prefer his red, white and blue colours (reminds me a little of Mansell’s old helmet). Rubens changed his colours back half way through the season too.

Having said that, I didn’t like the Brawn colours at all!

Renault really needs some big sponsors

They’re woking on it. I suspect what we’re seeing is the base livery, and sponsor decals will be added to it. I don’t think Reanult want to take on a major sponsor and start running their colours just yet – they have to clear their name and regain respect around the paddock first. They might lose money (or, rather, they might not make as much money as they would otherwise), but they almost certainly want to distance themselves from the Renault of old.

You can expect livery changes for Bahrain, but nothing too dramatic. They might change the colour of the engine cowling and shark fin, but that’s about it, I’d say.

  3. Last year’s helmet was far better and had Polish national colors on it.

    1. I think it still has red and white on the sides. Terrible choice though, couldn’t agree with you guys more.

    2. I think it didn’t, he changed it from polish colours to blue and red. To match BMW’s livery better.

  4. Oh no… another driver changes his helmet design. That’s just silly.

    1. yeah, very smart would be to leave bmw logo on old one! ;P

  5. From the Petrov’s photograph you can see that he arrive to the team quite late, his suit don’t has the Russia flag and his name on it yet!

  6. HURRAY! another helmet change to match the car to give the driver no identity.

    1. I sense sarcasm…I hope so anyway :P

    2. When you’re karting, design you helmet, be proud of it, and then stick with it forever. Thems should be the race car driver’s helmet rules.

      I hate all this changing.

      1. Agree x 100000 Ajokay

        1. Also agree. Petrov’s helmet is a bit cartoon like but has character with the Russian colours while Kubica’s is atrociously boring! Booo!

Could be worse. It could be the same as JV’s helmet. I’m pretty sure he only wears it because he lost a bet or something. You could throw up on a helmet and it would look better than his lid.

          2. lol good point PM :P

      2. couldn’t disagree more ajokay. If i wanted to change my helmet, i would be really annoyed if someone decided to stick their beak in where it wasn’t welcomed. My helmet, my choice.

  7. Kubicas’ helmet is terrible! Oo

    1. can’t agree more! The yellow outfits seem to be a salute to Jordan ’98…

  8. Spelling error below Petrov’s photo… Vitality LMAO… it’s Vitaly :P

    Nice one KC hehe…

  9. I prefer when a driver sticks to his original design anyway but I defiantly prefer Kubica’s old design. If Kubica had chosen a pure yellow and black design it would have looked better but from that picture it looks yellow/orange and blue/grey/black.

  10. Both drivers look like chickens wearing that yellow suit…

  11. What a shame… Kubica’s old helmet was one of my favourites

  12. I wonder why Robert’s suit doesn’t have the belt ? I like the new design of the helmet.

  13. The yellow stripe on the visor and the yellow background makes it look really unpolished. Usually the visor strip is of a different color :/

  14. Could be more fancy but will fit the car and suit.
I liek fancy helmets but sometimes it makes racers look like clauns.Vitalys helmets absolutely does not fit the car :/

  15. Forget the helmets (they change too much for a change to be that news-worthy), the overalls look pretty cool.

  16. OMP race wear? There’s a blast from the past. Either Puma were too expensive, or they just didn’t want to know…

  17. Must have been a late decision to pick petrov as he appears to not have his own overalls as kubica does, with no belt!!

  18. Epic eyebrows seems to be a requirement to be a renault driver, alonso & piquet jr included… hmmm…

  19. I hate the trend to change helmets nowdays. Mansell, Senna, Piquet, Villeneuve – never changed and were immediately recognisable because of it. Terrible.

  20. I think Robert’s new helmet looks great and harmonizes with the car and his suit nicely. “Boring”, as you say, is staying with the same design for years. He’s changed the team, cut off from the past so new helmet is more than understandable to me.

  21. If you didn’t notice Robert’s design is more-less the same as in the past, it just has new colours on it. The Polish flag is exactly where it was. Plus I won’t be surprised if this design is just for the tests period and he will be back with his red helmet in Bahrain. He likes coming with one-off designs from time to time.

  22. I see a big polish flag on the back of his helmet but he should have more black instead of yellow on it. Petrov helmet is just silly with this “GO GO” RUSSIA!

  23. Considering how much the Poles hate the Russians, this should be one of the most interesting personal rivalries this season..

    1. Poles and Hungarians on the other hand are well known for their friendship. If I were Renault, I would have picked the only ever Hungarian F1 driver. Now that would’ve been an interesting driver pair…

  24. The first thing that comes to mind looking at Kubica is Bumble Bee! :x I agree with Zarathustra, a black helmet would look much better, maybe with a little red.. I prefer Petrov’s even though it clashes a bit at least it shows a bit of his identity..

  25. I’m not overly keen on Kubica’s ‘manufacturer’ helmet or other helmets that are changed to match the car. They should be the individuals helmet, something that means something to them. I like Petrovs ‘RUSSIA!!!!’, it’s def something to shout about :D

Slightly off topic: There not the most handsome pair in the world are they?

  26. Not the best lookig f1 team on the grid!!

  27. I suspect Kubica may have changed his helmet colors to make it easier to differentiate with Petrov’s, as they would’ve shared the same base helmet colors.

  28. I think Kubica will change the colours to Black and Gold for 2011.
