Two teams have now logged over 1,000 laps of testing – Ferrari (1,098) and Williams (1,043).
Mark Webber set the fastest time of the test so far yesterday in the Red Bull RB6 – will anyone beat his mark today?

Q. Is Sauber officially entered in the 2010 F1 championship. There appears to be a noticeable lack of team and driver info on the official F1 web site. If yes, why no info, if no why are they testing?
I am so confused. And why doe sthe F1 regime and FIA not have a contact department for asking simple questions, like why does your web page take so long to load on older machines.
So insular they are.

Not sure how their system works, but looks as if they either aren’t receiving Alonso’s data, or haven’t added him as someone to receive data from, if that makes sense.

An off-topic question: What is the miniature track on the north west corner of the satellite image. It seems to be a replica of the larger track.
Why has it been built on a smaller scale at the same site?
sumedh
20th February 2010, 9:23
In fact, a little north-east of this miniature track, there is another even more smaller version of this track.
Why are these random decorations there?

Fast lap from Button to get under 1.19, but only with a single flying lap.

The variance in times from lap to lap is the clearest indication to you that the times on this screen are basically meaningless. All the drivers have lap times that are varying by half a second or more from lap to lap – there’s no traffic on the road during a test, so it shows you that the cars aren’t being pushed at all. Occasionally a driver will slip a quick lap in to see how things are, but that’s still no reason to believe it’s representative – either he’ll be told to back off the next lap or it’ll be part of some plan to thrown other team’s analysis off.
Aleksandar Serbia
20th February 2010, 13:20
Yep you are right Hairs which can only mean one thing, this day to day check up on test times is useless and gives nerds their only person to person talk during the day, and even that is through this blog!
Only the first race will show progress, and this new rule of no re fulling means only one thing : It is even harder to comprehend the true performance of a car!
Pete
20th February 2010, 12:39
I’m not surprised to see the best times go down from yesterday. I expect the times to go down from one dry day to the next as they typically do from Friday practice to Saturday qualifying if weather conditions approve or remain consistent.

20th February 2010, 13:10
so Button has the two fastest laps of the entire test. Hopefully we see a 1.17, we’ll only know a car is truly quick when it hits 1.15. Till then it’s all fuel weights.
Ninjenius
20th February 2010, 13:32
The 1:18.8 was set on a 2 lap stint and the 1:19.0 on a 3 lap stint. I’m hoping he wasn’t running on dry!
Scribe
20th February 2010, 13:40
Nah, presumably it was to see what happened to the tyres more than anything else. The teams really arn’t going for the times. They don’t care at this stage, they just want to know they’re numbers are right.
McLaren was saying it was already 3 seconds faster than last years at Xmas so taking them up on their word them an all the front runners just arn’t showing us the money.

StefanGP with toyota2010 at bahrain

USF1 missing 4 races…
they have supposedly asked to miss 4 races… , this is not little-league, this is F1

Is it just me or have McLaren not done any of the long-run race simulations that Ferrari and Williams have done? Cosworth must love Williams because they have been pretty much single handedly breaking that engine in for them. Lotus are doing some significant laps today though.

Stefan GP and Kazuki Nakajima to take constructors and driver’s championship, anyone?
Nixk Soemone
20th February 2010, 15:29
:-) I think your getting just a little ahead of yourself. They don’t have an entry yet, and its not certain they will get one. I think there is a good chance that the Toyota will be far superior than all the new teams cars. Its unlikely though that it is superior to the big teams cars because……,well because its a Toyota. ;-) …also development has been on idle of late.
Also if they had just signed Michael Schumacher and Alonso, then hey they would have the drivers to get a world constructors crown. …But sorry Nakajima and Villeneuve? :-) the car has to be out and out the best for them to win I’d say.
…Anyway I’d like them to get the entry into F1 and I wish them well.
