Very quick Keith!
Ferrari have done so many laps compared to the others! Good to see Button up there, but as always, we won’t know until the first race.

Seems that the previous years’ trend continue, Ferrari are rock solid machines (who’d said that in the 80’s and 90’s!) the Red Bulls are fast but frail machines.
Cosworth looks really strong this time round, at least Williams will cross the line everytime.
Renault is the main surprise, in my opinion, no one has seen them running along the other “big four”. But their pace is not that bad.

I think you made a mistake Keith! Timo Glock was driving the Virgin today, not Lucas di Grassi!

Is Ferrari the most reliable engine this season ?
pSynrg
20th February 2010, 17:14
Hmmm, I suppose you could say that although the fact that the season hasn’t started yet makes it a bit premature?
newnhamlea1
20th February 2010, 17:48
no, judging from last season i would say that the mercedes is easily the most reliable, the ferrari overheats too easily and the renault has a tendancy to explode randomly.
FLuidd
20th February 2010, 18:38
I’ll say that the mercedes engine overheats easily , judging by last season.
newnhamlea1

the mercedes engine only had one retirement because of it across all competitiors for the entire season which was caused by water pressure on sutils force india in hungary.

20th February 2010, 17:54
of course not. Just thought it was funny and interesting.. I would guess we are talking about what 25k ton of fuel? That is a considerable amount of fuel to haul to the tracks. 150kg or so for full race distance. They do about as much for testing on a race weekend. So a good 600kg per team so 7800kg for all teams for a race weekend. According to my car system I not used that much fuel in my 07 car since I bought it.. lol
newnhamlea1
20th February 2010, 17:47
i wonder how many teams will skip next years first test to allow them to have 3 days mid season testing?
newnhamlea1
20th February 2010, 17:51
this is the regulation that allows it
22.1.C) No track testing may take place between the start of the week preceding the first Event of the Championship and 31 December of the same year with the following exception.
If a team declares that one of its current race drivers is to be substituted by a driver who has not participated in an F1 race in the two previous calendar years, one day of track testing will be permitted between the start of the week preceding second Event and the last Event of the Championship. The following must be observed :
– Any such day may only be carried out by the new driver and may not take place on a circuit hosting a race in the current Championship year.
– Any such day may only take place within a period 14 days prior to the substitution and 14 days after the substitution has taken place.
– If a team, having declared the driver’s substitution and performed the test, does not then enter an Event with the new driver, the team will be penalised by a reduction of one day from the pre-season track testing days available in the following year.
Del Boy
20th February 2010, 18:36
Why would you do that. It would mean testing your car mid season with an inexperienced driver. Even the great Schuey had to practise in a GP2 car.
I also don’t see where you get 3 days mid season testing from. 2 cars 2 drivers?
newnhamlea1
20th February 2010, 18:46
not realy, maclaren could use gary paffet to test for them, and ferrari still have marc gene who is a perfectly competent development driver. Likewise force india can use Paul di Resta to test and he will have plenty of experience seeing as he is driving in practice sessions at almost every grand prix this year, btw the practice sessions dont count as the a grand prix, as shown by arrows getting penalised in 2002.
bwells
21st February 2010, 5:58
You can’t just grab a test driver for a day to test… he would have to be a replace one of your drivers.. and the replacement driver hasn’t raced in any GP’s for 2 years..
I think missing pre-season test days can only be exchanged for wind tunnel time.. :)
newnhamlea1
21st February 2010, 15:13
i posted the regulation above, it would allow them to say they were going to swap him in and then change their mind and keep their origional driver, a penalty of this is losing a day of testing for the next season.
sumedh
20th February 2010, 18:48
Difficult to read the timings of this particular test.
Today, the track was at its fastest, whole seconds faster than the previous 3 days. Everyone improved on their old times. This making it harder to compare against the times of drivers who tested on the first 3 days.
The field is definitely not as spread out as much it is made to look like (12 seconds).
And as a Lewis fan I will also add, Jenson might have set the fastest time of the year so far, but he was fighting it out with Robert Kubika in the Renault, hardly the class of the field.
Jenson was spot on when he said to autosport that the team to beat is Ferrari

“Jenson might have set the fastest time of the year so far, but he was fighting it out with Robert Kubika in the Renault, hardly the class of the field.”
Wanna bet a few quid against KUB giving BUT a run for his money? Why are you being so harsh on Renault? The truth is we know nothing about the field yet and the assumptions you’ve made considering the strength of R30 (or in fact any assumptions made on any car’s true value) are simply silly Sumedh. Cheers though:)

Keith, last two tables (Model – total laps; Engine – total laps) do not contain data from Valencia and 1st Jerez test.
Also your lap count is not always correct due to official timings (tsl-timing.com).
It should be something like this:
P. Team Kol Km
1. Ferrari F10 2039 8879,0
2. Williams FW32 1878 8187,6
3. Toro Rosso STR5 1597 6977,6

I can’t understand that Alonso is on top in your list Keith, he has driven 127 laps at Valencia (x4051=514,477) and he did 486 laps over 4 days at Jerez (x4428=2.152,008) which is a total of 2.666,485 km. Massa did 226 laps at Valencia over 2 days (x4051=915,526) and he did 396 laps at Jerez also over 4 days (x4428=1.753,488) which is a total of 2.669,014 km.
So Felipe Massa is ahead of Fernando Alonso by 2.529 metres, the total laps of Massa and Alonso are correct though.

Yeah, since this season is hugely about fuel efficiency, and the Renault engine is truly bad at that!

I think the opposite. I believe they are the most efficient on gas; should be a huge advantage during the race.
I like where Renault is as of now. I think they will make a big comeback this year. Kubica will get a major aero upgrade package in the next couple of weeks. The most interesting is that they have not made their car longer like others.
