It was a wasted race for Sauber after similar problems on both their cars.

Pedro de la Rosa

Failed to reach Q3 and qualified 12th. Stopped on his way to the grid when a problem with the pneumatic system caused an engine failure.

Kamui Kobayashi

Reached Q3 for the first time this year, beating de la Rosa by almost a second in the wet Q2.

He qualified ninth – just five hundredths of a second slower than Michael Schumacher – and ran tenth at the start before being passed by Lewis Hamilton. He suffered the same failure as de la Rosa shortly afterwards.

  1. Sauber: the disappointment of the season so far.

    1. Can’t disagree with that. Not great on reliability or pace.

      1. Which is a massive shame as well. They looked pretty hot in pre-season practice. I expected them to be ahead of Renault and Williams, not behind them and Toro Rosso!

        1. Not to mention the fact that Kobayashi is a very exciting driver to watch. I hope their reliability improves soon so we can actually see some full race distances out of him.

  2. I cant help thinking they where just running low fuel in testing, they where looking good, must of been chasing sponsors?

  3. I think we all got a little bit tricked with their testing glory runs, some of us to a greater extent than the others. Nonetheless, Sauber is the number one candidate for being surpassed by the newbies. Sad.
