    1. a bit dull, actually. waiting for rain that never materialised, only two bright points: vettel&webber crash and hamilton&button passing.

not too many for a great race

Are you a troll or do you honestly think that was a boring race?! I know everyone is entitled to there own opinion, but I don’t see how aanyone could find that dull

        1. well, that’s your opinion.

I stated why I think that, you didn’t. so before you begin insulting, try to give some arguments first.

it’s was mainly a processional race, apart from these two things. if not for a vettel&webber duel, there wouldn’t probably be action at all.

Well OK, sorry, but I think you’re completely wrong. I don’t think I need to explain my reasons for enjoying that race

            1. plz ned, u dnt need to explain, this was by far one of the most awesome races in recent past, the duel between nico petrov, then petrov alonso. and the two suabers with williams in middle, the overtaking of sutil over the sauber.. this was brilliant, and oops , button waking up and overtaking hammy, that was insane, and more insane was the awesome way hammy took it back.. this was awesome evening for a f1 fanatic like me.

          2. There was plenty of excitement behind the top four especially if you had an eye on the group behind Nico particularly Alonso.

            1. Hard to keep an eye on it when the camera crew decides not to show it…… *grumble*

        2. My heart was pumping throughout! I loved that. Obviously the crash was vital and the little battle with LH/JB, but also the middle of the field was interesting. It really hots it up for the next few races to come!
I felt sorry for Lotus though, they have made some great progress with race pace, but they were unfortunate with reliability today.
          Schumi nearly on podium too!

        3. “Are you a troll or do you honestly think that was a boring race?! I know everyone is entitled to there own opinion, but I don’t see how aanyone could find that dull”

To be fair Ned, it wasn’t exactly spectacular. I’ve had friends round this afternoon to watch both the England match and the F1. We flicked between channels randomly. Watched the first 3 laps of the race, then turned over. At half time, we turned back, saw the Red Bulls muller each other, and then the McLarens go at it. As clearly they were then told not to go at it by Mr Whitmarsh, we then turned back to the football until the final 2 laps of the race. I think we caught all the exciting bits, there can’t have been much else of interest in between. 5/10.

Oh fair enough. I’d personally put it amongst the best races I’ve seen in years, certainly one of the best dry races

          2. I think you had to watch it throughout to see how close it was for so long. I can understand it appearing a bit more dull if you only flicked across to it, but from the start I found it enthralling. It wasn’t that there were loads of bits of action such as overtaking, but it was facinating watching Hamilton pushing to catch Webber and then Vettel, with Button keeping always keeping in touch.

          3. Is it just me reading “I didn’t really see it, but I’m going to rate it anyway”?

          4. So you missed Button overtaking Hamilton and Hamilton taking the place back, huh? You can’t rate a race if you didn’t watch half of it…

          5. Umm… I mean this politely, but how can you possibly watch a race like that and expect to find it exciting? This is F1, it’s about strategy, slow build up, slow positioning, then intense moments.

Nearly the whole race was exciting viewed like that, the movements throughout the whole field were fascinating. If you only find the leader’s passing moves exciting, then F1 is clearly not for you – again, I mean that politely… and somewhat puzzled as to why you watch it.

It’s like only watching cricket for the wickets, when the best wicket requires the bowler to think the batsman out over several overs. If you don’t watch the in-between bits you just don’t, in fact can’t get the full effect. It’s impossible. Same applies to F1. And from the poll would appear most others feel the same. But each to their own.

            1. “This is F1, it’s about strategy, slow build up, slow positioning, then intense moments.”

Then F1 really has lost its way, because chess is about strategy, slow build up, slow positioning and intense moments.

Formula One should be about balls-to-the-wall motor racing. Super fast cars on super fast tracks. Cars side by side, overtaking, near misses from lights to flag.

I saw the start, was fairly good, but then they all settled down to their game of follow-the-leader. When I turned back, the pit-stops had just happened, and the Red Bulls were ahead, with the McLarens following. We then flicked back and forth several times to keep track of things, and lap after lap, those 4 cars were all just following each other round. Luckily we caught the Red Bull serl-destruction. Ok, that was pretty good, don’t see team-mates in the lead take each other out very often.

And then… we got to see some brilliant racing. Lewis and Button went at it for a whole lap and it was amazing. Then, just as quickly, Button just… dropped back… even though he was just right there, neck-and-neck. And that was it until the end.

Lewis’ face said it all. He was in a grump because he didn;t win the race properly. Ok, that wasn’t his fault, the Red Bulls took care of that, but I bet he was glum because he knew Jenson had been told to stop racing him. Lewis is a racer, and he wants to race, and even though he won out, he wasn’t allowed to.

Maybe I should just stop watching F1. I’m becoming like all my casual F1-watching friends, family and work collegues… every time I speak to any of them, they say how boring the race was.

But in my 15 years of watching F1, and I’ve seen damn near every race in that time, There was no way that that race was worth an average of what seems about 8.5 out of 10. But then maybe many voters are younger than me, in their teens maybe, or just new-comers to the sport that have only known Schumacher domination and constant anti-hype in the media of the recent years about F1 being dull, which probably make the 2010 Turkish Grand Prix an 8.5/10.

But for me, it wasn’t. It was a procession, then a crash, then a lap of dicing, then a procession. Which is why I gave it a 5. I got to see all the exciting bits, and I only watched about 15 laps.

            2. I dunno, for me I would say it was a pretty exciting race. Living in Australia, with most the races starting at 10pm on Sunday night sometimes the main battle can be staying awake. Not the case with this race, it was pretty riveting; not that I’ve been watching F1 for 15 years to compare it to anything that might have happened pre Schumacher era.

I thought the race was interesting for several reasons.

First reason – Lewis Hamilton attacked Mark Webber on every lap for about 15 laps before the pit stop. The fact the Lewis was able to attack, and Webber was able to defend under pressure I think shows how on top of their game they both are. When two drivers can push each other to the absolute limit lap after lap without crashing into each other that is pretty exciting. It’s kind of like a really tight football (soccer) match, when both teams are so good that neither team can score.

Second reason – The Red Bull crash. No explanation needed.

Third reason – The McLaren Battle. Yeah it only lasted for a lap, but I don’t it was due to team orders. It was probably due to the fact the Jenson Button seems to be a pretty calm and collected character. He probably knew that if he pushed it too hard he’d end up taking himself and Lewis out throwing away a perfect 1, 2 finish.

Fourth reason – The back markers. There was a lot of passing going on between the back markers, and having watched the entire race, I would say that the FOM did a fairly good job of showing those battles.

Final reason – People like Alguersuari and Petrov were setting fastest laps, which suggests every driver on that circuit was pushing themselves to the absolute limit. How can racing get much better? In how many series is a mid field team able to set the fastest lap? It shows how tight and competitive everything is, and I’ll take that for my excitement over 58 changes of leading driver any day.

            3. Nope, I’m in my 40s, been watching F1 over 30 years. And F1 has always been about strategy, slow build up and intense moments – that’s not a new development. Pit-stop strategy, managing fuel and tyres, waiting for the one moment would all have sounded familiar to Fangio.

I’d agree it’s also about “balls-to-the-wall motor racing. Super fast cars on super fast tracks. Cars side by side, overtaking, near misses from lights to flag” and I think we got most of those in that race, perhaps not so much of the last one, but I’ve seen plenty worse.

I’d agree it’s never quite going to have the thrill of some bygone days, largely because most of the danger has gone, but I watch F1 precisely because it’s like chess, (which can be very exciting – the karpov v kasparov matches were unmissable) I like sport that engages the brain as well, and maintains a narrative.

But thanks for the detailed reply. I gave it an 8, just couldn’t figure out the 1-3s

            4. Ha ha what is even funnier than ajokay rating a race that wasnt even watched fully is that they watched the most boring/frustrating and overrated football team stumble past Japan instead of one of the best most intense races for year. Lol good choice yeah!

      2. bad race again redbull is spoiling the champ I CANT BELIEVE HOW MCLAREN WON 3 RACES AND 2 DOUBLES they dont have the pace but they HAVE THE LUCK BUTTON HAS BEEN DISAPPOINTING BUT SMART AND LUCKY HAM UNLUCKY BUT TODAY VERY LUCKY.Race redbull were smart to get vettel in early cause they knew when the tyres were going to work on his out lap vettel did the fastest lap so mclaren mistake on pits wasnt crucial maybe ham should have came in earlier their extra engine(f duct the fia mistake) would give them the advantage needed to win but not this way

        1. ferrari sadly disappointing

        2. Your point really comes along quite nicely when you uppercase it. It makes it a great joy to read…

Anyway, great race with good action. A definite ten from me.

      3. You can’t really exclude the pivotal moments of the race and say “Apart from that, it was dull” :O

        1. Sure he can. Marcin also feels sex is very dull, other than the interaction between man and woman.

      4. i have to say, i think people are just getting a bit carried away by the whole lack of overtaking in F1 argument to the point they are now just generating some unreasonable expectations of what a race should be. I was on the edge of my seat for that whole race. it felt like i was only watching for half an hour cause there was always something happening. I can’t think of where it could possibly be labelled as ‘processional’. We saw some great fights, some accidents and some genuinely good overtaking. I can’t work out what was lacking.

        There’s your reasoning there Ned.

        1. I think this is the best race of the season next to Australia.

        2. Absolutely bang on!! Hallelujah

    2. 9. Very dramatic and tense and there were some really superb battles in there, particularly the McLarens and Red Bulls. Just great.

      1. non biased rating for the race RATING-5 the finish spoiled the action the fight never materialised

        1. The fight never materialised? Vettel hitting Webber and then Hamilton racing Button was the mateialization of the fight! Maybe we missed seeing Hamilton try and get past Vettel, but not necessarily anyway.

          1. Maybe he is under the impression that every race should be like Gilles and Arnoux in Dijon eh?

            1. well said mike, but then i wouldn’t complain if every race was like that :)

    3. 7. Some good overtakings and team battles!!

    4. here comes the British rating it high, really, aside from the win and 2 very small fights, there was no mid field changes, not real racing. fairly boring race.

      1. I am not British but have to disagree with you, there was always some action during the race.

      2. Just because their weren’t many overtakes doesn’t make it boring. It was a facinating battle all the way. How often are the top 4 cars covered by less than 3 seconds? Especially for the majority of the race. Watching the saubers with the williams and toro rosso at the end was good. Alonso on Petrov. It was nice to see Senna run well until he retired. One of the lotuses almost managing to come back against a williams. Great race.

        1. It’s worth mentioning that with the McLarens behind the Red Bulls there was always a chance of overtaking for the lead since they have such a large straight line advantage, enthralling race. I gave it an 8/10, although for a dry race it possibly deserves 10.

      3. @ todd

No offence mate, but so what if the British are rating it highly? McLaren are a British team and both their drivers are…

It makes perfect sense for the Brits to be happy with the result.

Apart from which, it really wasn’t a bad race over all.

Why do people always write this rubbish?

        1. @ todd
With due respect your comment if this race is boring to you then please tell me which race was the best?

    5. ..loved it. superb race

im shattered now haha. well done lewis..!

    6. 9

Beginning was dull, but the Macs keeping pace with the Red Bulls effected every bit of excitement in the 2nd half.

    7. Ned Flanders
      30th May 2010, 14:44

Best race that wasn’t either wet or SC affected since…?

      1. Ned Flanders
        30th May 2010, 14:45

        Imola 2005 perhaps?

        1. I’d say so although there were a few drops of rain here but technically I guess not rain affected! (I’m pedantic :P )

      2. Absolutely agree Ned. Gripping stuff that really showed that overtaking indeed isn’t the holy grail, but the tantalizing, sustained possibility of it is. I could have appreciated more action between Mercedes, Renault and Ferrari, but we got to see some backmarker action. I loved pretty much every minute of this one.

    8. Nine laps to go and racing at the sharp end, can’t be bad !
      Gave it a 9.

    9. None of the drivers on the podium looked very happy did they? Lewis normally jumps up and down and smiles massively. He didn’t even pose for the press when he got out of the car.

    10. I think it’s actually a 8 or a 9, but I gave it a 10 for being in Turkey, I’m very surprised that this track gave us such a good race

      1. Uh, why? Other than last year, Turkey has always produced good racing since its such a good track.

        1. Not really, it’s a poor-man’s rip off with good corners packed and glued together with mediocrity, a pathetic Interlagos Turn 1 rip-off and Faux Rouge as examples. The only thing remotely noteworthy is Turn 8.

I don’t know why many people see this as Tilke’s best work if there are quite some better circuits he has made: Aragon and Shanghai just as examples.

          1. @ Klon
Were there were more people then last year?

    11. I gave it a 10.

The race was exciting from start to finish, even without the rain. Also some nice duels further down the field.

    12. I don’t like Mclaren or either of their drivers, but I rated it 10 anyways. Good action and drama.

    13. Its awesome how everyone wanted this race gone a few weeks ago but everyone rated this race a 10 :) Very dull race, two fantastic team battles, too bad the mclarens didnt hit each other as well, couldve been nice to see rain or schumacher on the podium.

    14. 10 out of 10, would be higher if it could be!

Gutted for Red Bull taking each other out, more vital points lost but it was amazing to see a battle for the lead. I can’t remember the last time we got a battle for the lead!

Then when Button was battling Hamilton I just couldn’t believe it after what had happened before with Red Bull. Action and excitement from start to finish. AWESOME!

      1. But… 10/10 suggests that was one of the best races in the whole wide world ever since 1950.

        Surely not…

    15. 9 exciting race. Terrific actually. I’ll be honeest and say I didn’t like the result but that has no reflection on how exciting the race was.

I’d say Vettel’s fault. Mark didn’t actually yield but if they weren’t teammates he wouldn’t have even gave him that much room. I thinmk Vettel was a bit overconfident, when Ham tried to get round him early on he tried to move right too but Ham moved across and got his braking wrong so Vettel hung on. I think Vet thought he was either clear or could do the same and put pressure on Mark. He shouldn’t be demonised for it but he got it very wrong in my opinion.

It wasn’t the conventional way to win a race but Mclaren and in particular, lewis kept their heads when everyone else fluffed it this weekend so congrats to them.

I have to add though that I’m seriously depressed; blooming heck everyone was so miserable. A depressed podium, distraught RBR, Lotus and Bruno retired, di Grassi had issues, Ferrari mediocre, petrov puncture. The best race in a long time and you’d think it was the worst by the reactions.

      1. Mark wasn’t a saint either as he left the door wide open and maybe he shouldn’t have defended so hard

        1. Webber wanted to win, and forced Vettel to out-brake himself or brake early so Webber could retain the lead. He had no reason to let Vettel pass him, they are fighting for the championship! Vettel just tried to take the clean line, without watching Webber and just expecting to get a clear track. Stupid move from Vettel in my opinion.

      2. I think every1 on the podium felt that way due to the manners the winners won. Hamilton especially would’ve preffered to win it fair and square.

      3. Indeed, interesting strategy from Vettel. It looks to have worked on Ham, put him off and he then missed braking (I heard Ham made some comment about it too, didn’t catch it though).

BBC post-race mentioned rumours that Red Bull also told Webber to turn down the engine just before, so they really have a mess on their hands too.

Looks like Ham really thought Button wasn’t supposed to be overtaking him either, judging by the post-race stuff – all made aftermath nearly as interesting as the race (which wasn’t too shabby in itself).

        1. Yeah, I couldn’t really figure out what the attitudes were all about, but if you think about it the team did tell Hamilton and Button simultaneously to ‘conserve fuel’, ahem, hem. Anyhoo, their battle was great.

    16. It will be 7 for me.
Mice McLarens drives, Too bad RedBull self-destructed.
It would have been 8 or 9 if Mercedes, Renault and Ferrari had mixed in the fight.

I quite like the track in fact.

    17. 9 out of 10, top 4 were so close most of the way. would have been 10 out of 10 if button had top step and shuey got third :P

    18. Don’t understand all the negative comments. As some have said there were very tense battles for the front pretty much throughout the whole race. What’s not to love?

      1. Yeah, I’d agree. With everyone running so close, it’d only take one mistake from someone and they guy behind them would be right on them!

    19. Awesome race loads of action. I was really excited watching the whole race. Sorry I couldn’t make it to mod this weekend keith.

      1. I gave it a 10 btw, best race this season.

        1. I gave it a 10 too. How many GPs have we seen in recent years where the battle for the lead was so close from start to finish?

    20. Once vettel got to the team part of the pitwall, they all seemed to have given him the “its okay, dont do it next time” pat on the back. priceless. id be happier if alonso was leading the championship now, but gotta take what you can get.

    21. 10/10, bit of bias from the fact it was a Mclaren 1/2.
The cheer from me when the Redbulls came together letting Lewis through.
The disappointment from the 1st pitstop with RBR and Hamilton.
The worry from the rain coming and the lack of fuel in the Mclarens.
All the other scraps, manuevers and collisions throughout the grid.

And best of all, an HRT making a pass on the Virgin car

      Definate 10 out of 10

    22. Awesome race. Easily most exciting of the season. I voted 10.

Shame about the Red Bulls. Pretty obvious from the press conference that both Webber and Hamilton seemed to agree in their little conversation whilst Button was talking that Vettel was in the wrong. Very strong of Webber to control himself when questioned if it was Vettel’s fault. He’ll be a raging bull behind closed doors.

Hamilton versus Button was good professional racing. Good stuff.

I was liking Petrov vs Alonso that was good, and Alguersuari set the fastest lap at one point.

    23. Whats not to love? Hmmm, well pretty much the 4 leading cars changed positions and after them there was non existent passing.

      30th May 2010, 15:01

From worst race of ’09 to one of the best races this year, big turnaround and I really hope Turkey stays on the calendar.

    25. Would have given it a 10 if Seb hadn’t taken Mark out

      1. I think the first 40 laps showed you don’t need overtaking for a good race.
The top 4 cars being covered by less than 3 seconds, now that’s an entertaining race!!

    26. Jakes comment just now. ‘Nicole and Lewis can go and celebrate, however they decide to do so.’ Eddie looked like he was trying pretty hard to keep a straight face at that.

      1. Haha, I’m glad I’m not the only one who thought that hilarious.

    27. 8 – quite exciting;
I was mad at Vettel, and how Red Bull are unlucky this season, they should be miles away from rivals in both championships but keep loosing points in such stupid ways, but thats racing.
McLaren vs RedBull battle at front was the highlight of this race, could be 9 or 10 if there were some battles in midfield, but there were none (except Alonso & Petrov at the end).
And Webber for a champion, he deserved it more than Vattel.

    28. I went 8, and I’m rather surprised because I think I was being rather nice!

It was good, close competition the whole way through, Good battles, I wouldn’t say the Webber/Vettel thing was good, it was a crash so I can’t. But it will give us something to argue over.

      1. I’ll add to my thoughts, there are two things that were not good at all.
        1) Legard, nuff said.
        2) The cars further down had next to no TV time, I for one, like to see Bruna battle with Di Grassi.

    29. For once I’m glad I got up at 5am…:)

    30. Funniest part of the BBC broadcast. Jake Humphrey, having seen Nicole Scherzinger off, says, ‘there she goes with Lewis Hamilton, however they decide to celebrate.’ Oh yeah? Hahaha.

      1. Guess that was after the race… The Aus broadcasters insist on ending with an upsetting note by putting idiot Webber fan boys on instead of just copying the BBC. :(

        1. I am back in Aus at the moment, no idea how you guys handle watching this coverage every race. It is driving me insane (to the point that I switched to a web feed part way through the race today). They have to *shut up* after the ad breaks and let the BBC guys do their job. Not staying with the BBC during the post-race is bad as well, as they often have great insight into the race at that point.

I gave it a 10! I loved the race. Great battles at the front, and the Petrov/Alonso scrap was great too! Good job by the Russian rookie fighting for his spot.

I also don’t see anything wrong with the Webber/Vettel battle or the Button/Hamilton battle, as this is racing and I think the races are much more exciting when everyone is trying to win, rather than being conservative and just trying to get points. Maybe that is the aggressive American in me, but I love tough competition with high risks and high rewards.

Its about winning, and that is what makes the “show” much better. Its a 10!

    32. LOL i didnt catch the latter part of that commentary. How about webber? This is a guy that i hated last year and picked vettel over any day? My perspective on vettel has completely changed, more like a child, for webber to keep his true feelings to himself that shows he isnt there to run his mouth, keeping it real cool. Thats a person who is worthy of a championship. Redbull keep shooting themselves in the foot every round, and its just keeping ferrari and mclaren within reach.

    33. Maybe at the end of the year we’ll call this race the turning point of the championship. We have had all we were expecting sometime this season, the war declaration between Vettel and Webber and McLaren’s Button and Hamilton. They could say to the media that everything’s okay (as Massa did after Shangai), but this isn’t true.

Then, McLaren’s chase to Red Bulls has just started, today they were constantly competitive and got, also thanks to Vettel’s kamikaze move, a deserved victory.

We’ll see whether Ferrari can do the same or not in the next few races, a new set of improvements is expected in Valencia. At the moment, however, the championship is a battle between Red Bulls and McLarens.

      1. ‘ Maybe at the end of the year we’ll call this race the turning point of the championship’

You are right, it seems like Mclaren are the team that can beat the Red Bulls.

Woo, made it through a race for once, parents fell asleep. Are there any plans for the future to help the cars slip stream? Because even though they were close and you were at least able to entertain the idea of passing there were in effect only 2 moves, one rather catastrophic…Good times, all weekends should be like this. 5

Very enjoyable. Thought it was going to be a procession.
But on the edge of my seat from the Red Bull clash to the Lewis & Jensen duel to the…Will they make it to the end before they run out of fuel…… gave it an 8

    36. wow, amazing stuff. I gave it a 9 since a 10 is something else. the track lended itself to so much action. just look at the brilliant battle between HAM and BUT.

    37. That was a very good race. Schumacher almost on the podium, but I’m sure that’s not the way Mercedes want to get three. Mercedes needs a little more pace. Ferrari going backwards.

      Good job by Lewis

Did something happen at the track to make the drivers not celebrate? Like an injured spectator or flagmen?

      1. two divorces during the race… :)

        1. The commentators, Legard, were wondering why Lewis wasn’t celebrating…. To me , I suspect that he was looking rather tired! And I don’t blame him!

      2. I think Lewis knew that the victory was handed to him & I guess his clash with Button on track have something to do for not celebrating. But why won’t you. As Button’s radio said ” We pushed them & they CRACK’

    38. 10/10

Very dramatic stuff till the very end.

and to think Lewis’s poor pitstop actually helped him to win as it allowed Vettel into 2nd place and we all know what happened later on Lap 41….

Good result for the championship. I am not supporting any team – just hoping for a tight fight till the final race.

      1. “Lewis’s poor pitstop actually helped him to win as it allowed Vettel into 2nd place and we all know what happened later on Lap 41…”

        Brilliant. Hadn’t thought of it.

    39. That was proper Formula One. 10/10.

    40. the same folks who are rating this race as a bit dull were probably the same ones who rated the monaco race as “quite interesting for monaco”. I mean are these guys really f1 fans or are they simply pulling legs or something .no one should have despised this race so much as to call it “dull except for vettel/webber and hamilton/button battle”.

      it was a brilliant race

      1. One thing I’ve noticed from these polls is people who give a low rating are more likely to leave comments. It’s the silent majority phenomenon.

Great race. Rated it 8, but thinking a bit more about it, maybe it deserved a 9.

As I said on the live blog, for much of the race the battle for the lead was very exciting despite no overtaking. The gap was opening up and closing again visibly throughout the lap and it was fascinating.
Then came the red bull crash crash, and hamilton and button’s battle.

Once again, anyone expecting much more than that in a dry race needs to watch a different series.

    42. 8/10 for me. There was tension through the whole race, which exploded twice. I can see this being a very divisive racre though – some appreciate tension like this, whreas others just want to see action.

    43. Probably the best race to be held on a Tilke designed circuit. The best race at Turkey. It could be the last race in Turkey too.

      1. I doubt that Yes there were less crowd on track but they were more than last year & one shouldn’t forget it it Bernie’s favorite track.

With that piece of action I believe that this track will be in F1 in the near future, they just need to make F1 popular in Turkey.

    44. Pretty good race from the drama that unfolded – my heart was thumping like mad during the Hamilton-Button battle!

    45. 8/10 for me as well. I loved the tension, there was geniue racing between Mclaren and Redbull. It would have been perfect 10 if rain came down as well. From what I read in Turkish forums, it had poured with rain in places close to circuit around the halfway mark. Not the light showers teams were expecting but proper rain.

    46. Great race but what happened with Schu? 4th is a decent finish but at one point he was 33 seconds behind button and finished more than 30 seconds after Hamilton. Surely he can manage a better pace than that? There’s definitely some good defensive strategy at work in holding off the rest of the pack but I expected him to be a little closer to the race leaders.

      1. Thats the car, not Schu’s fault. If you think how much faster the McLaren was down the straight, an how much faster the Redbull was throught turn 8 it’s no suprise really that the margin opened up.

More confirmation if needed that Button was completely right to go to McLaren, 30seconds ahead come the end of the race, plus clear an obvious fuel saving at the end. Still Mercedes shouldn’t be judged till next year when they get the chance to build a car in a stable budgeted state.

    47. The single best part of the whole race was the McLarens side-by-side through 5 or 6 corners. I can’t be the only one reminded of two other world champions going wheel-to-wheel like that when they were teammates.
The clip should be played for the drivers before all future races to remind them it IS possible to go off-line and race side-by-side, and survive to do another lap!

    48. Great race!! Even though there wasn’t that much overtaking I could feel my heart pounding, it was really exciting to see the leading four cars close to one another swapping fastest laps, the excitement I think was purely in the fact that I was waiting for something to happen. I felt a real suspense from the start till the end. Best race in a long time as far as I’m concerned :D

    49. Great action. Ok, there wasn’t overtaking every lap, but that is not what F1 is about. F1 is about the build up, the attack, the defence and then eventually the passing attempt and following that whether it sticks or if the passed driver can counter-attack to regain his place. We saw all of this today. Enormous credit has to go to Jenson and Lewis for giving great racing without touching [significantly]. Christian Horner should sit down with Webber and Vettel and say “that is how you race your team-mate”.

    50. Pretty good race, I gave it a 7(would never give a 10). The WDC is really shaping up to be epic. Development will be key. Mclaren are closer but may struggle on high aero circuits like Silverstone. Mercedes and Renault are improving but still have a substantial gap to RBR. One can feel the chill settling over the Ferrari garage.

12 races to go and the teamate battles are beginning to rage. Team principals keeping the drivers ego’s in check may make the difference. Wouldn’t want that job as there are some massive ego’s involved here. Can’t wait for the Canuck GP which always produces an exciting race.

    51. Well, I think that’s one of the first real classic races we’ve seen in a very long long time.

In the dry, tight battle all the way at the front, pit stop strategy and mind games with Red Bull countering McLaren’s stop, real overtaking with drivers fighting back after overtakes.

Some real good moves. Fantastic driving with Lewis and Jenson.

I’m genuinely impressed. Is Formula 1 back???

    52. what are u waiting from a race ? i think i found everything at this race what i waitin for.. webber or vettel not alone at the race.. 4 cars race with each other at the head of the race.. i think it was better than monaco because it was not like a race it was like a boring movie..i m sorry about ferrari and redbull.. congratulations mclaren… 8/10 certainly everybody will remember this race at the end of the season especially redbull and mclaren fanss …

    53. A deserving 8.
The best race of the season next to Australia. Just explain what didn’t happened on this race. That lap 40 was exciting. Did you guys saw that live when Vettel & Webber collided as the ESPN in Asia went for a commercial break which was pretty frustrating. Again the fight between the Mclaren’s drivers really had my heart in my mouth when they fought down to turn 1.

    54. It was a good race, quite apart from the own goal scored by Vettel. Naturally disappointed that Webber didn’t win, but it was good to see four people out the front battling it out, and a genuine pass for the lead – when did we last see that?

      1. Indeed but perhaps Webber ‘was’ actually a big winner in today’s race, both in terms of his gap to Vettel and the amount of fans he has won around the world in the last 24hrs.

    55. Vettel decided that all team decisions were now his and he screwed up. Lucky no-one was hurt. An argument cannot supercede this unless instructions were given to take the spot under any conditions. Webber should be talking in AM to team manager about the future of his health under these cicumstances.

    56. First half was very boring

      Second half was very good

      1. And your reasons for this succinct analysis?

I personally don’t agree with all the comments regarding it as a dull race. If you watched it from the start to the very end you would’ve appreciated the sheer quality the top 4 guys were showing. Putting in fast & consistent laps for a long period whilst they were under pressure from the car behind was a joy to watch. 8/10 for me the two RBR’s colliding prevented a possible grand-stand finish.

    58. F1’s all about what could happen, for me. There was always the chance of someone making a mistake or whatever, either in the top 4 or the Merc/Renault/Ferrari group. And this time, for once, things did happen. Once the Red Bulls were gone, Button v Hamilton gave us more than we could have expected from two team-mates, particularly given what had just happened to the other team-mates…although I felt a bit cheated by McLaren’s “save fuel” instructions.
A gripping race, lots of pressure and driving skill on display, and no fuel stops to distract us or the commentators – that was the best 2010 race so far.

    59. This was a great race.

We always look to the past with rose-tinted spectacles (“look at this, wheel to wheel stuff they’re almost tocuhing… Mansell gets in there…etc”) but try to imagine Murray and Hunt commentating on today’s race and you’ll realise F1 is in good shape these days – not bad.

We don’t need overtaking every 5 minutes to make a great race. Keep races long. Stay away Briatore!

    60. 9 for me. Thoroughly enjoyable race and a pleasure to watch Webber get a gap through Turn 8 and then Hamilton get back on him the rest of the lap.

Thoughts on what this race indicates for how to improve the racing in general (and mentioned in the excellent earlier discussions on this topic):

      1. FIA to reduce the allowed fuel – it’s now clear that the VET/WEB and BUT/HAM dices were due to different engine settings. Lowering the allowed fuel load would encourage different strategies (take it easy early and push hard later vs. go hard then dial back). Equivalent of a race long “push to pass” and plays to environmental concerns too.

      2. Publish the engine settings so we know who’s dialled up and who’s conserving.

      3. For the “show” ensure full interviews available with drivers involved in an incident BEFORE the PR minders take over. (There is so much that could be done with the coverage to improve the show without putting it all on the teams, particularly the parallel use of online as the live blog on this site shows)

    61. I don’t understand why some people on here thought that was a boring race…if you thought that was boring you aren’t really a F1 fan in my eyes. Go and find another sport.
