Thanks to everyone who sent in questions for the team at Populous yesterday. I spoke to them at length yesterday and had a look at the renderings of the new pit complex for next year’s British Grand Prix. “He is still under an order where he is not allowed to work in F1 until 2013. There is talk in the F1 paddock that he is likely to start work with his old friend Bernie Ecclestone in the near future.”

Kapow32 reminds us of German GP steward Danny Sullivan’s finest hour – and his dad was there!
And here is the footage that must accompany any mention of Danny Sullivan.
My father was sitting in the infield right where Sullivan spun, but he says he could only see the two turns, not the short chute where Sullivan spun. So my dad saw Sullivan leading Andretti in turn one, then heard an engine go silent briefly, then saw Andretti lead Sullivan through turn two, he had no idea what happened till he got home and saw it on the news.

On this day in F1
Fernando Alonso won the European Grand Prix at the Nurburgring on this day three years ago.
But after the race he became embroiled in a row with future team mate Felipe Massa which was caught on camera. The pair had banged wheels as Alonso passed Massa to take the lead late in the race:

Best F1 cameo ever! The race itself was one of my favourite ever. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing when all those cars aquaplaned off at Turn 1. And then the drama later in the race as the rain returned and Alonso closed on Massa was just incredible

That race was really great.ESpicially the part where we saw that everything is happening & all of a sudden Markus Winkelhock is leading the race in the Spyker.I thought that both Massa & Alonso will have a fist fight before they go on to the podium celebration but it never happened, I still remember that Massa was red hot in the press conference.

Why oh why did they have to red flag the race! To hell with all the danegerous cars in the gravel, I wanted a Winkelhock victory!
In all seriousness that was a great race. I love Fernando’s finger wag in parc fermé and how wound up Felipe was! That was the highlight for me in a very dull and disappointing season.

It was a great event, everybody spinning off. Lewis on the hook and Markus Winkelhock in a Spyker leading the race.
If only we could have Bruno Senna leading the way in a HRT on Sunday this year (or even more amazing Yamamoto)!

News just in, James Allen has a new “could” column.
Flavio “could” have been in a garage or he “could” have been in a different garage, word is that he “could” have been a participant in the crashgate scandal and “could” have been banned from F1, but with his ties to FOM circus master he “could” come back, ever since FOTA “could” lead a breakaway series and Flavio was BESTEST FRIENDS with Luca they “could” totally have a slumber party were they “could” try on each others dresses and talk about boys!
Flavio was heard saying “IT “COULD” BE SO MUCH FUN!””

Seriously this tabloid style of journalism coupled with a 4th grade writing level really irks me.

Hearing that Danny Sullivan won the 1985 Indy 500 despite spinning got me thinking: when have F1 races been won by a driver who spun or crashed earlier in the race?
Off the top of my head I can think of a few- Mika Hakkinen at Spa and Michael Schumacher at Indianapolis in 2000, and Lewis Hamilton at Monaco 2008.

Today is the anniversary of the first motor race in 1884. Held between Paris and Rouen it was actually won by a steam powered vehicle which required a stoker and as such the winner did not receive the prize for first!
