The track
The 4.4km (2.7 miles) Hungaroring is one of the shortest on the F1 calendar. First used in 1986, this year will be the 25th world championship race at the Hungaroring.
The circuit has changed little since F1’s first race ‘behind the Iron Curtain’. It’s always been one of the slower tracks and overtaking is very difficult.
The track tends to start off very slippery at the beginning of the weekend, as it is used little between F1’s visits. The weather is usually hot and dry, so that by qualifying on Saturday lap times improve quickly with each passing car.

The weather
A large band of rain is heading towards Hungary. It could affect practice and possibly qualifying and the race too.

2009 Hungarian Grand Prix highlights
Qualifying for last year’s Hungarian Grand Prix was interrupted by a shocking accident suffered by Felipe Massa, who was unable to race for the rest of the season due to his injuries.
When the session resumed Fernando Alonso took pole position, though it took a while to verify that as the timing system failed with half a minute left to run in Q3.
Alonso’s bid for victory was thwarted on race day after an early pit stop during which his front-right tyre wasn’t properly fitted and came off after he returned to the track.
That allowed Lewis Hamilton to take his second win at the Hungaroring for McLaren.

Keith you have said that its the “25th world championship race at the Hungaroring” when in fact it will be the 24th. 1986 to 2010 is 24 years.
Correct me if i’m wrong.

You’re wrong. Count ’em…

Just try 1986 to 1990, which by your logic would be 4:
1. 1986
2. 1987
3. 1988
4. 1989
5. 1990
You are wrong. :)

As I understand it Keith, Alonso himself knew he wasn’t in a position to win. He just wanted pole.
Great race though. Alonso’s wheel coming off, Hamilton’s KERS-assisted frightening of Webber which made him botch the last corner and resulting in the two-corner duel with Hamilton going around the outside, just one race after the low of the British Grand Prix to silence the boo-boys; Kimi’s re-emergence to take 2nd (even if Red Bull made it easy for him by giving Webber the wrong tyre choice); the championship shifting with Brawn’s second bad result in a row. Who says Hungary is boring?

Well it was race-fuel qualifiyng and he was lightly-fuelled, so maybe. Renault did do that a couple of times.

Are you made to use the word unofficial or do you just like to, lol
Hope it rains, not during the practice sessions though…which is the complete opposite of what the forecasts are saying, I know.

Is there a Sebastien Vettel version of these race preview laps? I think I saw one here in German once. Who’s faster in the sim?

I believe that Vettel is faster in the simulator. Unfortunately the team took the steering wheel away when it was Webbers’s turn. :(
