Monza, 2010 Italian Grand Prix

The Italian Grand Prix is one of only two races – along with the British Grand Prix – that has featured in every world championship year.

Monza has held more world championship races than any other track. This year will be its 60th – it didn’t hold the Italian Grand Prix in 1980, that race being held at Imola instead.

At a whisker under 5.8km (3.6 miles) it is one of the longest laps of the year but is completed at the highest average speed. Teams run special low-downforce packages and lap at an average speed of almost 250kph (155mph) despite having to brake hard for two slow chicanes.

The entry kerbs for those chicanes have been eased this year to reduce the risk of a car being flipped into the air.

See the video lap above narrated by Sebastian Vettel here.

2009 Italian Grand Prix highlights

Lewis Hamilton shared the front row with Force India’s Adrian Sutil – but the race belonged to the Brawns.

Rubens Barrichello took over the lead of the race from team mate Jenson Button who had Hamilton breathing down his neck in the closing stages.

But Hamilton over-did it on the final lap and crashed into the barriers between the two Lesmo corners, allowing Kimi R??ikk??nen through to finish on the podium for Ferrari.

Barrichello won, giving the Brawn team their eighth and final Grand Prix victory.

  1. I see a difficult weekend for all involved trying to explain how ferrari didn’t bring the sport into disrepute. I also think Ferrari may be surprised at the depth of feeling from real fans.

I just hope ANYONE but Ferrari win.

    1. In Italy? Do not expect the Tifosi to protest in large, maybe a few comments here and there, but not more

  2. I would love to see Kubica and Sutil on top after qualifying. That would be fun. But i suppose it will be McLaren and maybe Red Bull.
Not sure about Alonso, he might go to a devastating win or just be “fastest” through FP1-FP3 and then fade to 5-6th places.

Weebs just isn’t my cup of coffee. However, good luck to him regardless. This will be his first championship if he can manage it, and I am sure he appreciates it very much.

  4. I have nothing against Ferrari but I am hoping for a win by someone different/ anyone different.

  5. Man, I’m so jealous! My friend who’s studying in Italy just told me he might be going to Friday practice. If he sends me pictures I’ll definitely share.

  6. I’ve missed the ‘Live’ telecast of the Monza race, anyone know where can i catchup the video on the internet?
