    1. As a McLaren fan I don’t like the results that much but I can’t deny the race was exciting throughout. 7/10

      1. As a Mclaren fan I’m disappointed but I understand the meaning of words – ‘rate the race’. 10/10 what an amazing race, especially for a street circuit.

        1. Yeah have to look past the disappointment of Lewis DNF to say it was a very good race for street circuit. 7/10

          1. If there had been more of a fight between Vettel and Alonso on the last lap I would have given it a 9. The first half of the race let it down a little, but I am glad I watched the entirety as it turned out to be a lot better than Monza, even if a Ferrari had to win again. :P So I gave it an 8.

            1. I gave it an 8 as well. As it was, that last lap was pretty gripping. I was on the edge of my seat watching Vettel close the gap on Alonso so quickly. I think he was smart though to settle for second and not risk crashing out to make a nearly impossible overtake.

        2. I’m a ferrari fan and the race was exiting, but for a long period nothing happened after the first SC, 6/10
Mostly exiting in start and end.

          1. what it happened was ALO fast lap and VET fast lap each lap till the end. Great. Watching the timming it was very exciting, but at the end you can be bored watching fast lap for 50 laps. ;)

          2. Also in that period you had Webber fighting with Kobayashi and Schumacher, although you’re right it did go a bit flat for a few laps.

      2. I voted 6 but this unlucky guy would surely be voting zero

        http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pwthZnF8iZQ

    2. Dull dull dull dull dull, safety car, dull, dull, Hamilton overtakes Webber who promptly barges him off the track, dull, dull, stewards decide to have a paid holiday, dull dull.

      Can I wake up now?

      1. Wrong, wrong, wrong and wrong. Go to bed and sleep if that is what you enjoy doing more than watching F1…

        1. What a bunch of warm bull. Stewards were asleep and probably only interested in a free holiday. How else do you explain Heiki being “allowed” to drive his flaming car around without punishment? That was downright stupid.

(Oh and can you close off your HTML tags in your above comments? The bold tag you’ve used is affecting the entire page now.)

          1. Franton, what Heikki do was correct, because he can´t go to pits and risky a lot of people with fire. The stewards was to slow to turn the fire off (and the fire-killers of the car didnt work).

For me was a horrible race because “cagonso” won the race (I´m Ferrari fan but i dont like “crying baby alonso” anymore since Hockeheim). I love the lot of fight on the track!!! Keep going and without any penalty!!!!

“Winners don´t use team orders” (That´s for alonso and $chumac$er)

            1. If Alonso wins this year, then that’s 10 titles between the drivers you mentioned. Sounds like they did a lot of winning in their prime to me.

I didn’t like Austia or Hockenheim either, but lets face it- Fernando drove a stunning race today (tonight) after a stunning qualifying and although Alonso isn’t my favourite driver, I am happy to see him win in this style so long as he drives for Ferrari.

      2. Youre a Lewis fan then

        1. Show me where the race was then. There was a moment towards the end with Kubica passing people but most of this was decided in the pitstops. Boring.

Watching Vettel follow Alonso round the track is NOT a race. I want to see people pass each other and frankly the only drivers who managed that were Webber (a bit), Hamilton (not much), Kobayashi (plowed it into the wall not long after), Massa (only the back markers) and Kubica.

Someone on the BBC commentary described Singapore as Monaco at night. There’s very little actual racing going on there too. This is now three races in a row at this circuit where pole man wins. I’m fairly sure if it wasn’t for the money that floats around Singapore, we wouldn’t have a “track” here.

          1. The timming is also F1, not only overtakings. For example, if Hamilton or Button hadn’t lost so much time before changing tyres (without overtakings) they would be in front of webber and he didn’t have to overtake and finally crash.

F1 is not only overtakings, that’s not how you win. But I think you only like one small side of this.

finally, the only real overtakings are between very different cars with different strategies, so that’s not interesting.

          2. To me thats a very limited point of view. I think the most interesting part of F1 is, how difficult it actually is. I liked the race a lot, gave it 8/10, because it represented what I love about F1: there are a thousand things you have to consider and its constantly changing. Who could have forefeen Webbers early stop or Hamitons rapidly worsening tyres or Barrichellos well lasting tyres. I also liked seeing that Alonso/Vettel chase a lot. Vettel didn’t pass Alonso, because Alonso did a great job, no mistakes. Isn’t that amazing? The smallest mistake coud have cost him the win but he held onto it and made it to the finish line.

I want to see more of that and I have my fingers crossed, hoping F1 will never become a dull americanized overtaking festival without heart and soul.

          3. In Istanbul, there were what, two proper passes for position amongst the front runners in the entire race, but what made it such a thriller was the fact that the front runners were so evenly matched throughout, and the threat of overtaking was always there. A bit like with Alonso and Vettel being covered by barely a second throughout.

            1. Er Franton, pretty sure Massa was on pole in 2008. If Alonso had’ve been, then I doubt crashgate would have happened.

          4. Erm Massa won pole in 2008 and i think he ended up 18th or something ….

if u find it boring, why not petition to ban both singapore and monaco. I hardly see any overtaking at Monaco this year. or last year. or the year before.

Circuits that should be dropped in fact are the likes of Spanish GP (has there been any memorable race there for heaven’s sake) and the rubbish Bahrain GP

    3. I thought it was pretty epic actually!

The first half was a bit dull, but surely that’s to be expected with 60 laps of a long and tight circuit. But the second half provided plenty of suspense and there were moments where I didn’t know what was going to happen. Also thoroughly enjoyed Kubica’s drive.

As for the Hamilton/Webber incident, I think we’ve just got to expect that in racing and get over it. He tried a move and it didn’t work out that’s all. It’s just because prior to this race they were the two leading guys at the front that people will make an uproar. Alonso on the other hand was in a league of his own, and as much as I hate to admit, Vettel drove one of the most mature and controlled races i’ve seen from him!

I’ll give it an 8 I think, only just though.

      1. Agree on the 8. I dont think it was dull. We had nice action from the start. Only after about 20 laps there was 10-20 minutes with less action.

        1. I thought it had a bit of dullness near the end too – I know that Vettel and Alonso were chasing good laptimes to win the race, and maybe my flue related headache made that less interesting than it should have been, but I would have really liked that last lap close racing to happen starting maybe 5-10 laps earlier already.

That said, Kubica racing during that time was very nice to see, even if he could only do it that way due to fresh tires.

    4. Fantastic race for Alonso.

    5. 7. Was SO sorry for Kubica loosing so many places that stupid way until he turned a 4-rated semi-dull race into a 7 with lots of fun-to-watch overtaking nearing the end.

“Massa’s tires are 50 laps old, so you can… Nevermind. 2 seconds to Niko now.”

      1. Yeah, that overtake during conversation from the pitwall was epic!

      2. What happened to Kubica to make him drop back? Was he hit, or did he have a puncture?

(my notebook just cooked up and shut down at that part of the race)

It was a great drive passing 4 drivers after that, so i was pretty happy i got the ‘book started in time for that agian.

        1. Some tires issue, his lap times improved by over 2 secs each after the stop

          1. It was a puncture.

    6. BORING. Qualifying was more exciting than the race. Congrats to Alonso – great drive! However, other than Webber taking out Hamilton, there was minimal excitement.

      1. You forgot about a huge fire on the lap last with the driver getting out as cars drive past at 150mph, Vettel 2 tenths behind Alonso past the chequered flag, Kubica overtaking tonnes of people…

        1. The fire was downright stupid of Kovaleinen. Someone should have warned him over the radio or something. Driving as far as he did was irresponsible.

The only thing that potentially could have done was end the race under the Safety Car. How is that exciting????

          1. Kovy did exactly the right thing. His on board fire extinguisher did not work so he drove around to the pit wall to get one.

This, and other, incidence pointed up the poor marshalling all weekend. The marshalls seemed to be few in number and certaunly very slow to respond to any driver with a problem.

      2. You must have been watching a replay of some different race.

I never really got bored except for about 10-20 minutes in the middle before the pit stops.

    7. F1 Shock! Vettel ‘doesn’t’ crash and Ferrari win ‘without’ cheating! This kind of spectacle doesn’t happen often… hence 7/10.

      1. Well, now the crash kid is Hamilton, and Ferrari doesn’t need cheating because FERNANDO IS FASTER THAN EVERYBODY. :)

Well, I really think that RBR is ahead but there’s a little gap and Alonso knows how tu minimize it. This weekend ALO was a bit slower than massa but he made a perfect weekend and got the pole, race and FL.

        Congratulations for him.

        1. I meant a bit slower than Vettel. Sorry.

    8. The second half of the race was fantastic, showing why Singapore is the best addition to the calendar in the last 20 years possibly.

It really is the closest F1 gets to an endurance race, and is such a great contrast to Monza beforehand.

    9. As a Webber and Button fan I was really hoping Vettel could get closer to Alonso and perform some of his homemade Spa action. Nothing harmful of course just a couple of broken suspensions would have done nicely.

      1. I was praying as they were coming up to lap Schumi… I’ve come away slightly disappointed, would have been an epic if all 3 of them collided

    10. 8/10, a good overall race despite the tedious moments..plenty of overtaking and it was unusual to see Red Bull not make a mess of it for once

    11. Great race! Overtakes, fire, sparks, good stewarding, crashes and a championship that’s getting more exiting by the minute. What more could you wish for:D.

    12. Fantastic race, a 9/10. One of the best in the year.

      1. yeah, I enjoy follow the leader as well. Get a decent track designer already!

    13. I think these rate the race posts could do with waiting until people have seen a proper recap of the race, look at the people calling the great race we just saw “boring”. You guys are joking right?

      1. I guess that’s the Hamilton factor…

        1. Webber and Hamilton colliding was one of the few interesting events actually.

          1. It was a great race. Plenty of overtaking, strategy games, and SC dramas, and fighting collisions. You can’t ask for more from an F1 race, to be honest. This is what it is about.

            1. not perfect, but better than monza

Just think how much better it would have been if they had just put in a 90 left instead of that stupid chicane – it totally ruins about half of the lap as it would have been a good overtaking spot

          2. This was, by all standards, a great race. Nothing less than a 7. I give it a 9. If Hamilton hadn’t veered into Webber’s line, this race would have been so MUCH better! Imagine the battles…

            1. The Ideal Solution would have been to discard the rubbish chicanes totally and open up both lanes of the Anderson Bridge instead of one.

              Advanatges –
all the cars would be able to filter through easily as
drivers have the option of using either lane of the iconic Anderson Bridge.

              Disadvantages –
              erm none really

            2. Leaving a massive construction in the middle of the track for drivers to hit? No chance.

    14. I gave it a 7. Very tense and brilliant drives from Alonso and Vettel, but apart from Kubica all the on track action was a bit…amateurish.

    15. Sound_Of_Madness
      26th September 2010, 15:17

Not a bad one, given it was a street circuit. Was between 7 and 8. Opted for 7, thinking that 8 would be quite lenient.

    16. 4/10. Nothin much than crashes n safety cars. No awesome passing other than kubica. overall the race was quite a drag.

      1. wow. what do you rate a good race then? there was plenty of overtaking.

        1. By no overtaking i meant no overtaking among guys with almost equal power. Like massa passing the slow guys isnt exactly wat i expect in overtaking.

          1. Basically by defintion, there will no be overtaking between cars of equal performance with drivers of equal ability. Unless of course, you have cars bumping each other out of the way a la NASCAR, which is just junk food: it leaves you wanting. Fois gras on occasion is better than a Big Mac every day.

    17. I can’t remember the last time I slept during the race, from lap 41 to 51

    18. 10/10, fantastic race, awesome display of skill throughout, driver of the race undoubtedly heikki kovalainen, anybody who puts out the fire on their own car is a winner in my book.

    19. Still can’t take to Singapore. The visuals from above are fantastic, the track shots dull as hell. But the real problem for me is its difficult nature, full of kerbs and walls, making caution necessary, combined with its place on the calendar – at a point in the season where *most* drivers chasing the title are reluctant to risk much. Okay so there are always incidents and almost inevitably SCs that bunch up, but Hamilton’s failed attempt to pass Webber was a real exception and in hindsight a bad call (not talking about moving through the mid field a la Kubica and Webber earlier in the race). Earlier in the season we might see some more risky moves, even later (penultimate?) Button and Vettel, for example, would have really have had to go for the extra points. Oh well, plenty of other people seem to like it.

    20. Those who say ‘boring’ crack me up– even the fire in the last lap had me out of my seat. Although my favorite driver didn’t make the podium, the race result keeps the championship in question.

      1. Well, the fire was actually the most interesting part of the race. It was good for the championship, but I’ve seen many better races before.
Well, gave it a 5/10, though.

    21. Quite a decent race despite Lewis crashing out again . :( 7/10

    22. 7 – Some great action, but I think the Safety Car robbed us from a greater race once again.

    23. A. Bramao & H. Raqui
      26th September 2010, 15:28

      7
Although a lot of fun came from accidents.
In my opinion WEB should have got a penalty on his move against HAM…

    24. Hammmy gave Web tons of room…but watching that lotus burn was wonderful…not bad for a street race

    25. 7/10
It would be rated higher, but being such a tight and slow circuit, getting to race distance takes quite a long time. Had it been 30 minutes shorter, it would be excellent.

    26. 8. Strategy, overtakes, fireworks and sparks and a race to the finish. Damn good for Singapore. Lost 2 marks for the lull in the middle

    27. I’m stunned people found that race dull. That was a fantastic grand prix. Had everything you’d want in a race.

    28. Really enjoyed that, Another great race…
Alonso worked for that one… Kubica was amazing! and I’m really happy Rubens got some points.

      1. Oh, and how great was it to see Glock fighting against the established teams? I know it kind of unravelled, But for him to do that, it’s almost as good as points.

    29. Webber always seems to outbrake himself when he’s trying a big pass/being passed – anyone else notice this? Here was another case in point when he should have given up the place – he was a very lucky boy.

That said, i don’t think he should be penalised – this is what happens when you race. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. Both were fighting rather than sitting back so fair play. Gutted for Hamilton though – he really isn’t having any luck this season.

    30. First half of the race was boring, but 2nd one was awsome, with Alonso and Vettel so close at front, and Kubicas blitzkrieg from 13th to 7th (i know he was on fresh tires, but still it was very pleasant to watch his overtakings). So I gave it 9, first time since…cant remember, but I am pleased with todays race.

    31. 8/10. Can’t wait for the F1.com edit – two SC; Webber/Hamilton; Kobayashi/Schumacher; Schumacher/Heidfeld; Kobayashi/Senna; Kubica after his second stop; and Kovalainen being the epitome of cool.

Compare Singapore as a race to Monaco. Whilst Monaco is by far the coolest qualifying of the year, the actual race is, unless it rains like in 2008, incredibly dull. Great race with some boring bits, but that’s what you’d expect from a two hour long street race.

On another note – I hope Kubica’s recovery shows Pirelli how tyres should behave. If the difference between soft and hard tyres was to be the same as the difference between Kubica’s new tyres and everyone elses old tyres, next season could be a blast. Of course the soft tyres wouldn’t last more than 50 kilometres or so, whilst the hard tyres would go on forever.

    32. Only Kubica deserves the result

      1. Yes Kubica is really amazing. I think he’s putting the Renault higher than where it deserves. I think the actual results of Renault are because his quality. He’s another Alonso. If he arrives at Ferrari with Alonso, it’s going to be another McLaren-senna-prost, but better.

        COngratulations for him.

    33. RBR had no answer today!! ALONSO yeaaaaaaaah! What a race best of this year, amazing they run so close to the wall for 60 laps! No way you can convince me that was a boring race no matter who you like… Once again kubica shows why hes going to ferrari! The layout of the track might not have the catchiest layout but def makes up for that with all the beautiful scenary! Was hoping for a RBR dnf or even for button to take places from them but we’ll take the W!

      1. Um…definitely far from confirmed if Kubica would be going to Ferrari in 2011 and I’d seriously doubt it.

        1. I agree with Sam, Alonso won without cheating, which is a real surprise. A rare treat in the world of Ferrari…

Vettel deserves a mention for not wiping Alsonso out also. respect.

          1. It’s not as if Ferrari or Alonso cheated in Bahrain nor in Monza.

Sure i hate the move in Hockenheim as well (and a lot from the past) but it is hardly like Ferrari cannot win anything without cheating.

          2. I think this is the second race u watch in which Alonso won after Germany otherwise u wont have said that.

          3. Do you know what is the favourite song of Hamilton?

            WALKING on sunshine.

            Specialy the chorus:
I’m walking on sunshine (whoa oh)
I’m walking on sunshine (whoa oh)
I’m walking on sunshine (whoa oh)

          4. I agree with Sam, Alonso won without cheating, which is a real surprise.

I can count 23 occasions where you were surprised then.

    34. 9/10 for me. The first third of the race was a bit boring but the last two thirds more than made up for it.

Webbers Overtakes at the start, Kubica at the end and Kovy putting his fire out were the highlights for me.

Definatly worth staying up to midnight for.

      Bring on Japan!!

    35. wth happened to the text?

      1. It’s you,you have a bug in your computer…time to re map that drive:)

    36. For a track that has been often criticized, this race has far exceeded my expectations – and it’s one of the best dry races!

Brilliant and hope for more such races.

      10/10

    37. Only a 6 for me, although I should have put 7 really…

2 main minuses: I don’t like street circuits, no matter how spectacular they look. Straight, turn, straight, turn, turn, turn… No long, fast sweeping curves flowing into a tighter curve with an elevation diffence…
And then I hate Safety Cars. That’s quite artificial entertaining I think…

Apart from these 2 points, it was an OK race.

But still the circuit doesn’t mesmerize me…

    38. 8/10. Awesome race. Lots of attrition and a spectacular finish. Also big ups to the drivers for racing for 2 hours in very humid conditions.

    39. Rubbish exit for HAM. I guess that pure racing though. Even though I am a McLaren fan, but I really want Webber to take the championship title. Other than that it was great race.

It’s was kinda weird how Senna crashed into Kobayashi. This race had me on my toes towards the end.

      1. Web knew what he was doing,Ham gave him lots of room…I’m sure pay back before the end of the season

    40. Why on Earth is everyone rating it so highly? It was easily the worst race since Bahrain. Remind me, what happened apart from the collision? Boring Boring Boring Boring Boring Boring BORING

    41. pathetic race…….lots of anticipation but nothing was happening…even rain could have helped……..i think FIA should knock off such incompetent circuits………….very boring………i believe they should have called off the race….and should have given scores on qualifying………..i initially thought of giving 2/10 but after lewis-mark incident…i at least have to give it 4.

    42. Gread Race. almost perfect along with Australian.

    43. I gave it a 7 out of 10. I could have given it an 8.
Quite a few overtakes and crashes. Great race by Alonso and Vettel. Alonso only driver not to make a mistake. Vettel:selects 2nd gear in pits by mistake
Hamilton:tries an absurd overtake around the outside of Webber
Button:pulls out of an overtake of Hamilton on first lap
      Schumacher:crashes into Heidfeld
Massa:overcooks it at turn 13 and cant get past any1
Webber:went onto the prime way to early (not his fault)
      ect ect….
Webber and Kubica were very impressive although Kubicas overtaking was mostly on brand new softs while ever1 else was on muched up tyres, however Webber showed incredible determination and skill.
Congratulations to the stewards for no penalising Webber, I too like Marin Brundle believe it was a racing incident.

    44. What a boring race, only one passing move on the track in the top 5 all race & it ends in a crash. The only point of interest was whether Webber would catch up; and that does not a race make. It’s an awful track and the night race thing isn’t a novelty anymore.

The first GP in several years that I could not be bothered to see to the end.

      1. “The first GP in several years that I could not be bothered to see to the end.”

Hence making your opinion worthless as that’s where most of the action occured.

        1. What action? A collision? I saw that. Most interesting thing that happened all day.

The finishing order was exactly the same as when I switched off at around 75% of the race done. Ergo nothing happened.

Cars running line astern isn’t exciting. For example even if Button had been 2s per lap faster than Webber there’s no way he’d have got past, or even close. When there’s no prospect of changes in the race then it’s boring in my book.

Maybe two decent tracks in a row have ‘spoiled’ me somewhat, but this was as bad as Bahrain 2010.

My opinion isn’t ‘worthless’ by the way, it’s as valid as yours.

        2. Cars running line astern isn’t exciting.

Cars largely running line astern with a collision thrown in is pretty much what happened at Istanbul Park this year.

    45. gr8 win for the ferrari go alonso go

    46. 8/10 for the drama but most if it depended on the Safety Car periods. Was lining up to be the most boring race of the year before that.

    47. 7/10

I think it was a good race. We have seen a lot of action, strategy calls with tyres, stellar last stint by Kubica, some good overtakes and stewards who actually encouraged drivers to race. Alonso was untouchable at front, Vettel unfortunately didn’t want to risk strong points but there were battles behind the top drivers which were entertaining.
I don’t know what kind of race people who are saying it was dull and boring expect?

    48. Definitely the best race we’ve had in Singapore so far, though that’s hardly a glowing endorsement.

It was a bit disappointing that just when the battle for the lead was looking tasty, the safety car came out again.

Feel sorry for Hamilton – it was a racing incident though and I don’t think you can blame Webber.

At first I thought McLaren dropped the ball by not pitting him sooner but looking at the data I don’t think that was the case. Analysis up soon…

      1. Look at the replay…Ham gave him tons of room and Shu did a real number on Had…now that was pay back, but still…

        1. Look at the replay…Webber had his left wheels on the kerb….

    49. I am definetly not an Alonso fan but I have to say that was a really impressive drive from him. Great to watch. Shame about Hamilton but well done to the stewarts for putting it down to a racing incident. Two championship contenders battling it out things like this are going to happen. The only bad thing about the race was the state of those trophies!!!! 9/10

      1. Ham gave Web tons of room, the race stewarts had the blinders on this weekend

    50. i gave it a 7. the first half was miserable, the second half was excellent.

    51. 10! – The only night race, a street circuit!

    52. The circuit needs work. Get rid of the pointless chicanes in the final sector so the cars run along the waterfront flat out, and get rid of the two corners after turn seven; go around the war memorial instead. There’s talk they’re going to do it for next year.

    53. My Rating: 6

      Reasoning:

      1) I liked that all the championship contenders made clean starts. It is always disappointing to see a driver crash out or lose a bunch of places on the first lap.

      2) I thought Red Bull’s decision to bring Webber in for a pit stop was a risky gamble, and I didn’t think it would work, but they proved me wrong. So I liked the fact that they took a chance. Without Red Bull taking that risk, Webber probably would have just circulated in fifth position for the rest of the race.

      3) I liked that Webber was able to capatialise on minor mistakes by both Schumacher and Kobayashi to pass them.

      4) I didn’t like the Webber / Hamilton contact. It’s understandable, no one would want to them yield to the other drive. The collision probably would not have occurred if the lapped traffic in front of Webber had of got out of the way like they are supposed to. Maybe it was just my bias but it seemed like they got in Webber’s way but were only too happy to jump out of the way for Hamilton. I’m also a little surprised that those lapped cars didn’t incur some sort of penalty; after all it was their action (or rather inaction) that enabled Hamilton to be in a position where a collision could occur.

      5) I like the circuit, and I like the “Singapore Sling”, it’s a test, and consequences of failing the test are severe, but who said Formula 1 is meant to be easy?

    54. I gave it a 7. A fair amount of overtaking, some good strategy calls, some real racing, and some fantastic drives by Alonso, Webber and Kubica. Even Vettel kept his nose clean, although I knew he’d never get past Alonso at the end ‘cos the boy just can’t overtake. I bet Hamilton is kicking himself today, he had 30 odd laps to make a move on Webber, it didn’t need to be done straight after the re-start. I can’t beleive some people are blaming Webber for that, or intimating that it was deliberate. Webber had the line, end of story.

    55. 8/10. An eventful race with some nice passes considering that it is a street race and run dry. Bring on the changes for the circuit and some rain in 2011 and it will be incredible!

    56. I voted 6, not too much racing but some incident. The highlight of the race have to be Webber’s driving passing drivers especially Schumacher & Kobayashi. Then his cool head driving behind Barrichello.

Kubica did provided some entertainment in the end of the race which was good to see as you can overtake on this track if the strategy is split.

    57. A 6 from me.
I’m not a big fan of this night racing and the circuit itself, where there is little opportunity for overtaking although having said that was surprised that there was some overtaking,of note being Kubica late in the race and Webber earlier on when he got past Schumacher and Kobayashi.
I must say that Webbers luck has changed for the better this season.Any other year after the coming together with Hamilton,he would have ended up out of the race.

    58. It was quite interesting. Only part that was dull was the 20 laps after the first SC

    59. Actually only the few accidents i didn’t see a lot of racing it’s rather dull… Why not try to let see some action coverage in the backfield. Hamilton move on Weber and vice versa was good too see (was racing) And in the end Kubica overtaking the lot. Those tyres are bad enough way too good!
And then the penaulties after the race is really getting annoying! I gave the race just a 4

    60. For me the race was a 7/10, I was set to give it a 6 until Kubica’s late surge through the field after his unscheduled pit stop.

Another faultless from Alonso, but even though Vettel was close all race I never thought there was any chance he would get past Alonso on track, so even though they kept trading fastest laps that part of the race didn’t have as much tension for me as it probably should have done.

There was some action further down the field, but without the safety cars and some drivers making an early tyre change I think the race may have been a bit dull.

    61. I gave it a 6 despite plenty of action.
Now I hate Bernie’s medal system, but I actually thought seriously about it after this race, as I’m thoroughly disappointed that Vettel seemed to settle for 2nd place, despite the fact that he had a car that could challenge for the win.

But, maybe I’m being too harsh and Alonso was just too good.

Also, I hate that kerbing on the exit of turn 7, where Hamilton \ Heidfield got hit. It’s a street track, get rid of it and let them use the walls as the edge of the circuit. The silly kerbing cost Glock too when he slid across it after going wide.
Removing it would speed up the lap times a bit too, but maybe the safety police will kick up a stink if they are removed.

The only kerbing to keep is the turtle humps at that chicane. It’s needed to slow the cars before the bridge and it’s a unique aspect of the track.

      1. I don’t agree that Vettel settled for the win – he was all over Alonso in the final laps. Though I did wonder why he wasn’t able to attack Alonso as hard after the second safety car period as he was doing before it.

        1. To the relevant track officials,

i have thoroughly enjoyed all 3 editions of the Singapore GP so far. Keep up the good work!

However, i hope you give consideration to my feedback. The one corner that has irked drivers would be the ridiculous Turn 10 chicanes. Why not listen to their concerns and simply remove the chicanes?

I understand that the purpose of the chicanes is to filter the train of cars coming though into a single file and it has worked very well.

The drawback is of course that the chicanes also handily stymie overtaking – something that hardly endears to fans.

My simple solution would be to open both lanes of the Anderson Bridge so that cars have enough space to filter through and move onto the Esplanade Bridge. Imagine the visual treat as cars battling to overtake emerge out of either lane of the Anderson Bridge and stream towards the Esplanade Bridge where the battle continues.

Now there might be a safety concern as cars coming out of both lanes might not see each other. Solution – draw a white lane a la pit lane exit for about 100m to 300m from the exit of Anderson Bridge to the entrane of the Esplanade Bridge so that there is no risk of dangerous collisions.

          There you go
          Desnond Shaw

        2. Keith,
i hope you can see my petition to have the ridiculous turn 10 chicanes removed and open up both lane of the Anderson Bridge to promote overtaking.

I have sent an identically worded petition to the race organisers at info@singaporegp.sg

If you, as the owner of the most popular F1 fansite out there i believe, were to send one as well, i believe the organisers might be more inclined to make revisions to that ridiculous Turn 10 chicanes next year.

          Cheers mate

          1. Sorry but the way I see it, it’s a two-lane bridge with a divide down the middle, I don’t see how they could possibly do what you’re suggesting.

            1. A white line, which drivers cannot cut, could be drawn from the divide all the way down to the early portion of the next bridge.

            2. This is what would happen if both lanes of the bridge were open.

              http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=boZ14OZ8gXc&NR=1

It would be a death trap. As would removing the turn 10 chicane. Without that chicane turn 10 would be a high speed left turn, and if drivers messed up I imagine the force of the impact with the outside wall would be too great, and as a result would cause serious injury or even death, as has happened at other similar corners on other race circuits.

          2. To add on, the Singapore GP is a great spectacle and one of the best additions to the F1 calender.

PLUS POINTS – The local interest is genuinely feverish and crowds throng the race every year, ticket prices are very affordable and the off-track entertainment is top notch.

NEGATIVE POINTS – Like what many other fans have mentioned here, apart from Turn 7 (where Hamilton and Webber had their tangle) or Turn 8 (where Kubica had many of his overaking moves yesterday), there are hardly any overtaking opportunites elsewhere on the track.

It won’t surprise anyone to know that our best friend, Herman “i build exciting circuits in my sleep” Tilke drew up the circuit plans and passed them onto the organisers. You could hardly blame them; when Singapore was awarded a race, they thought they should look to the “most experienced man” for help in formalising an exciting circuit and that man happens to be Mr Tilke.

By now, they should know that the circuit produces throughly boring racing action save for Turn 7 and 8.
I just sincerely hoped that they take heed of drivers’ and fans’ comments and removed the rubbish chicanes at Turn 10 and open up both lanes of Anderson Bridge to promote overtaking. Not every turn needs to be one where overtaking can take place but to have only 2 out of 23 is frankly disappointing.

    62. Weird. I thought it was a great race, went on a bit though. Because there was so much action I looked at the lap counter expecting it to be almost over and there were still 20 laps to go :D

    63. Apart from Robert Kubica and his clever passes, this was [for me] a very boring race. Of course, there will be young detractors who will call me all sorts of names, but as a GP aficionado for over sixty years, I can tell a good race from a bad one. This was bad, with far too many safety car sessions, all of which levels the playing field.

    64. There was lots of passing, tight racing at the front, cliff-hanging strategic gambles, a clash between the top two in points. Then you had Kubica carving up the field like Zorro in the late stages. I have to rate it very highly, despite going through the quickest cycle from resignation to jubilation to horrible dispair I have ever experience thanks to the “racing incident.”

By the way FIA needs to ban track cleaning machines. That confounded thing robbed us of an interesting start. In fact, it seemed like that sweeper spent too much time on the inside.

    65. Quite an eventful race for a dry street track.

      Some track modification ideas:

Turn 7 should go straight on round the cenotaph, eliminating turns 8,9 and making the back straight longer.

The 3-apex tortoise chicane should be a 2-apex chicane and moved slightly back up the straight.

Use the outer road on esplanade bridge instead of the inner. Makes for faster turn 13 hairpin and tighter turn 14. And if turn 8 is eliminate (as per first suggestion), run-off area won’t be an issue.

Make turn 18 a straight run to turn 21 under the new Helix bridge.

    66. Totlly boring-the rock concerts were the redeeming feature- the only non- boring part of the ‘procession’,unfortunately, was when Webber accelerated and deliberately rammed Lewis.
