Five players shared the top score in round three of the Predictions Championship.
It was Davidr74 who claimed the top prize on the tie-breaker by coming closest to guessing the pole sitter’s time. Ad_mat came in second.
Davidr74 wins a pair of F1 DVDs from Duke Video and Ad_mat has won an F1 Fanatic mug.
The other three players who scored 31 points were JS, asrock5 and Oblong_Cheese. But it’s pukz, who picked up 29 points, who’s the new championship leader.
With 70% of players choosing Sebastian Vettel as the race winner, the 19% who opted for Hamilton were well placed to score highly.
A whopping 90% of people correctly predicted Vettel to take pole position.

You can enter your predictions for all the remaining rounds below and on the Predictions Championship page (under Community > Predictions Championship in the menu).
You can edit a prediction for any race up until the deadline for entries which is the start of third practice at each round.
The prizes
There are prizes to be won in every race plus grand prizes for the overall winners at the end of the season.
Whoever gets the highest overall score throughout the year will win a pair of grandstand tickets for the 2012 British Grand Prix.

Grand prize: Two grandstands tickets to the 2012 British Grand Prix
The person who scores the most points over the whole season will win two grandstand tickets to the 2012 British Grand Prix at Silverstone.
The grand prize winner will receive tickets to all three days of the event with reserved seating for the race.
The winners will have tickets for the Becketts grandstand which offers views of the spectacular, high-speed Becketts complex plus part of the new infield section of the track which saw so much action in the 2010 race.
Second place prize: An F1 painting of your choice
The second place finisher will win an F1 painting by Rob Ijbema.
You get to choose which F1 driver, present or past, will feature in the painting. Or you can pick one of the other motor racing paintings on Rob’s site Car-a-day.

How to enter
You have until the start of free practice three on Saturday to make your predictions for each round.
A reminder will be posted on the site after free practice two on Friday as well as on Twitter.
Each player may predict the pole sitter, the pole position lap time and the top five finishers in the race. See below for the rules in full.
You need to log in using an F1 Fanatic account to make your prediction.

Competition terms and conditions
1. Maximum one entry per household.
2. The competition is not open to employees, friends or family of F1 Fanatic, Silverstone Circuit, Duke Video or Car-a-Day.
3. Predictions will open up to one week before the start of final practice on the Saturday of a Grand Prix weekend and will be promoted on the front page of F1 Fanatic before closing prior to the start of final practice.
4. In each round players are invited to predict (a) who will be on pole position and (b) what the top five finishers will be (five different drivers).
5. Players score points in each round as follows:
a. Correctly naming the pole sitter: 2 points
b. Correctly naming one/two/three/four/five driver/s who finish in the top five: 1/2/3/5/8 points
c. Correctly predicting where one/two/three/four/five driver/s finish: 2/6/14/24/40 points
6. Whoever scores the most points in every race counting towards the Formula 1 World Championship wins the grand prize.
7. In the event of a tie on points the winner will be determined by who came closest to predicting the pole position time correctly. If that fails to produce a winner the editor will choose a means of deciding who has won.
8. Predictions must be entered using the form above. If you have trouble submitting your entry via the form please contact F1 Fanatic via email and send your prediction using the contact form.
9. In the event of a dispute the editor’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
10. No cash alternative is offered for any of the prizes.
11. Grand Prix tickets: Children must be accompanied by an adult. Accommodation and transport to the venue not included.
12. Players who have won prizes will be notified by email within seven days of each Grand Prix. DVD and mug prizes will be despatched within 28 days of that email being sent. Grand Prix tickets will be despatched once they are available.

I appear to be on a consistent pattern myself, but with a far worse trend. 9 points for Melbourne, 7 for Sepang, 5 for Shanghai. If I continue like this I’ll be scoring negative points by Monaco if that’s even possible. Maybe Keith will implement a new rule to allow me to score negative points. I’d like to be consistent at least.

Another rubbish 7 points from me! Alonso has been my big let-down, I predicted a victory in Australia and a Top-5 finish yesterday. I usually go pessimistic so that if Hamilton doesn’t win at least I get a good prediction but it let me down today!

Hooray! I’m not last anymore… Now I’m just amongst the 126 people who have 5 points in joint 1315th!
I predicted that Vettel, webber and Button would finish in that order, but not that someone would finish in front of them… Its all Lewis Hamiltons fault for being too quick! I knew i should have went with my heart rather then my head. I should probably just be thankful I’m not last.

Believing in Hamilton pays, finally! A shame Jenson didn’t get P2. And where was Nick? I put my faith in him over Alonso! (And yet, Rosberg got that 5th place!)
Impressive from 3 top scorers to have predicted the top 5. Betting on Rosberg was quite a risky bet after Friday!

I’m a bit disappointed, because at one moment during the race, I had almost the perfect prediction. But the top 5 was changing so much that it didn’t last…

Correct pole position. All 5 drivers correct and only 1 out of place (Hamilton 3rd instead of 1st) and all I get is 16 points! This scoring system sucks!

In that case you had 3 out of place. The scoring system is the same for everyone. It allows people to still be in the running for the predictions championship until late in the season and it’s simple enough to work out points during a race. How would you suggest it be improved?

Agreed that’s the rules so no complaints there. My point is that I could have predicted…
Pole: Glock
1st: Karthikeyan
2nd: D’Ambrosio
3rd: Webber
4th: Button
5th: Rosberg
and got more points!
So I guess it’s more the weighting of how the points are given that I think could be better.
Anyway, like I said, the rules are the same for everyone, so I imagine if it had benefitted me I would have been happy I guess. Just call me Alonso haha!

Yeah, I see what you mean. A compromise has to be struck between not having to be lucky to score well and keeping people within reach of prizes. I think the amount of positive skew in the scores finds this balance pretty well at the moment. And as you said, I’m sure the scoring will work in your favour sooner or later.

First time i predicted Vettel for the win and he didn’t make it. Last time i put Hamilton. Why is everything happening in reverse?! Still happy though because i got Webber and Button right and i finally escaped that 7 point max i was stuck at. 13 points isn’t that bad.

I’m surprised that more people didn’t predict VET HAM WEB BUT ROS seeing how good Rosberg was looking in practice. It would be kind of interesting to know how many people predicted that although it there dosen’t seem to be a way to do that this year like you could last. I was on the edge of my seat for the end of the race when with 5 laps to go my prediction was perfect and Vettel just needed to defend. Not surprised at seeing how many people predicted correctly Vettel for pole he has been the master of the 1 lap this year(and last year too.)

That is exactly what I predicted & gained a whopping 24 points for my troubles. Thank you Nico Rosberg! And despite having tipped Vettel for the win, no one was happier than I to see Hamilton overtake him.
This weeks haul sees me vault up to joint 29th, and I beleive, the highest placed woman. Glad to be leading the charge for the girls !

Well, 5 points again, I platoed already – at least I can be happy to have predicted an easy win for Vettel, but I had Webber reaching 2nd, and forgot Hamilton. At least I got Rosberg into the top five.

Everything went perfect ‘but’ I predicted BUT in front of WEB (knew he will struggle in quali but not as much as he actually did. So still I’m happy he joined the top 5 from P18) and ALO as the best of the rest… If it wasn’t for that damn Ferrari 150 Truck I could have got more points! ;) My pole time was ultra rubbish though.
