  1. Hi,

Well, I think it’s crystal clear and that’s F1 today. Most of the time, we watch “car caretakers” (or “tyre caretakers”?) instead of racing pilots. There’s always been a strategical dimension in F1 and I do like it. But there need to be some balance. This year it’s not a question of taste anymore (some like a bit more strategy or a bit less): the red line has been crossed. See J. Trulli’s comment (and, definitely, there was a decent amount of strategy in his days): he said his engineer only told him to push more, while today he only hear engineers telling their driver to slow down and control the pace…

  2. “But satisfaction…”

    Probably best reply ever…

    1. @fer-no65 Absolutely Brilliant

  3. Hmm, I wonder if tire management has become too conservative. No one lost their tires. Vettel dramatically lowered his lap time in the last lap. Seems like the ‘deltas’ were wrong today. Here’s a chart showing the distribution of the top 10 laps for the top drivers: http://bit.ly/17cdQWf. Notice that Nico didn’t have the fastest lap, but was most consistently fast. And my favorite- gap to leader chart: http://bit.ly/12GW4Up.

The question in my mind is: How long could Seb Vettel keep that pace ?!
That´s very strange (and sad) to watch the fastest cars on track in an endless merry-go-round. Seb´s fastest lap “is” real racing; Kimi´s drive back to 10th “is” real racing; Crazy Perez´s moves on Alonso and Kimi is a mix between insanity and courage, but “is” racing; Sutil pass over Alonso “is” racing. The rest… well, Pirelli knows what is… a “poor procession” around the track.
Let’s see what the next race(?) will be.

    1. The procession was not due to the Pirelli tyres. It was due to the Monaco ‘racetrack’.

      1. I agree Monaco racetrack yields procession. But still, a procession going 2s faster is way more impressive. You can drive around any track; if you do it at 20km/h or at 160km/h, it starts feeling very different…

    2. What I don’t understand is how Red Bull told Vettel to be careful and not push, and he was getting laps 2 seconds faster than anyone. Why didn’t he stay closer to Rosberg? why didn’t he try to push before?

After every restart, Vettel had a reasonably big gap to Rosberg. That surprised me… i’d have expected him to run closer.

      1. This is indeed the question. Why did Seb not push and pass? It’s not like he pays too much attention to his radio… The lap times for Nico & Seb look so similar and that seemed at odds with with his blistering final laps (see: http://bit.ly/16YGKIv for a comparison of Nico & Seb’s laptimes). And although hard, it’s not impossible to pass at Monaco and you would have thought on one of those restarts that Seb would have chased him up the hill and late-braked him at Massenet. I’m sure the official line will by tires, but…

It was all about the tyres. RB had the highest tyre degradation in the field, even more than Merc thanks to Mercs illegal private test with Pirelli. So they had to dawdle about 4 seconds slower than the car was capable of. Vettel got the fastest lap out of sheer frustration. It’s like he wanted to show everyone who bothered to look: “Look, I could go 1:16’s, but I’m only allowed to run 1:20s, because those ***** tyres would go off on me if I didn’t.”

          1. The pit delta at Monaco is about 25 secs. I don’t think the teams ran out of rubber (and if they did, then they blew that part). So why then did the front runners not run faster and change a time or two more? IMHO not because of the tires at all- but because of the un-wisdom of crowds. All it would take is one brave soul to chance it and we would had a real race. The tires are just scapegoats. They were clearly able to run faster (P2 best lap analysis here: http://bit.ly/15d9s4o and race best lap analysis here: http://bit.ly/19hV5yV). I’m beginning to think their race simulations may not include a risk analysis component and are therefore too conservative from the out-and-out racing perspective.

      2. On the radio they said degradation of the first stint was on the limit and with the number of laps to go they settled for 2nd at the restart.

  5. Rocky and Seb are having interesting discussions during the race :). It helps to be a triple World Champion at 25 and leading the championship in the 4th year. U dont have the pressure like Rosberg, Hamilton or Alonso – all of whom need a championship badly.

Again this is not the First time Vettel has been told not to Set the Fastest Lap and he has gone ahead and set it. The guy is too young and he has a lot of adrenalin in his Blood. Stands very truly for the Philosophy of Red Bull Sports. They created him they should not cry too much about it.

I Guess every team principal would like to have a Car and Driver like that. It is generally a good problem to have !!!!

a lot of fastest lap had been taken in probably 3 last lap since last year, that doesn’t seem right to me…

    1. But those were mostly from people that had to make a late stop and were then on new tyres. Wasn’t it always the case that fastest lap came at the very end, when the fuel was almost used up?
