  1. Frankly we were robbed by these tyres.
    Gutted for Seb.
    Lewis had a fantastic drive.
    “The Test” helped Mercedes.
    good news for the chamionship.
    great final laps

    1. @mnm101 I still don’t see how people can say it for sure, because if the test did help then why were they still subject to tire destruction? Along with the other team that did two tire test with Pirelli. So to me that means the tire test were testing tires that F1 don’t have and it didn’t help solve the current issues with the ones they do have.

  2. Lotus lost the ball today. Kimi lost a chance to win when they did not pit him when SC came at the end. Please go to RB next year.

    1. +1 Lotus keeps doing errors

      1. I keep seeing comments to that effect, but no diss on Kimi I don’t think the lotus had the pace to challenge Rosberg and Mark who both had fresh tires they didn’t need to conserve.

He didn’t have to get mugged by Lewis and Alonso like that though, that could’ve been avoided.

        1. I agree that Kimi probably didn’t have the pace to challenge Rosberg, but he definitely could have defended 2nd place against Webber if he had pitted for tires too.

            agreed

  3. Kimi im sure will be fuming at Lotus’ extremely stupid decision not to dive right into the pits for fresh rubber. from 2nd to 5th. I really hopes this makes him decide to switch teams.
Boullier says he will try and convince Kimi to stay, but with this kinda absurd reckless call not to pit their guy and it has cost him massive points to Vettel and Fernando

    1. Yeah, I absolutely agree. And it’s not for the first time that Lotus are making similar mistake. They don’t look like a proffessional team because of all these kind of decisions. And now they’re just falling behind their rivals not only in the drivers championship but also they’ve massively lost ground in the constructors’ championship.

    2. @scuderia_fan85
Yes, that’s why Kimi deserves a better team since clearly he seems more experienced that Lotus at the moment. Kimi needs a team who’ll listen to what he’s saying.
And, with his huge experience with the turbo engines in WRC it’ll be wise from RBR to take him a Vettel’s teammate.

    3. It seems that Lotus completely dropped the ball there. He should have been fighting for the win after that safety car, and at least should have been 3rd (Webber really was on it after all).

  4. Great news for the championship….. Hope ferrari is quick enough to challenge for victory in Germany

I stand by what I said before – Hamilton IS a genuine WDC contender. Mercedes have real race pace and their qualy pace is staggering. I expect more race wins for Merc and a first for Hamilton next weekend.

    1. They now have pace… after the extra 3 days of testing with their 2013 car.

They always had the pace, they just couldn’t manage their tyres adequately. The fact that they can now isn’t conclusively down to the Pirelli test – a test that they participated in only to improve Pirelli’s understanding of the tyres… :P.

It’s perfectly reasonable to accept that Merc have solved their tyre issues without any help from an outside agent. After all, with the technical know how at their disposal, they were bound to master the tyres at some point.

        2. Right, having 3 days of testing wouldn’t help at all, not even help with understanding their own car and how to improve it?
I think it’s perfectly reasonable to accept that Merc has benefited from the test to help solve their tyre issues. Even if that may not be the sole reason for their improved tyre management.

@hellotraverse After what was an undeniable show of what was the advantage Merc got after the test (don’t start up with your moaning about how they were innocently helping, because that is just stupid to believe) – merc may just be on time to spice the championship up – unfair advantage or not. But Lewis for WDC? That ship has sailed with Vettel and Alonso on deck.

        @shreyasf1fan

After what was an undeniable show of what was the advantage Merc got after the test

First of all you’d have to prove that Merc’s improvement in race performance is directly linked to the Pirelli test (a test that Merc were cajoled into participating in).

But Lewis for WDC? That ship has sailed with Vettel and Alonso on deck.

How can you justify Alonso being a contender but not Hamilton? Alonso is only 13pts ahead and if Ham’s tyre didn’t blow today he would’ve won, bagged himself an extra 13pts and would at least be level with Alonso if not ahead (because of course Alonso would’ve been deprived of a podium finish).

Also when you take into account Ferrari and Merc’s recent performances, Merc appear to be going from strength to strength, building on their blistering qualy speed, whilst Ferrari seem a little sluggish in their development and delivery of upgrades.

If Alonso can win it, so can Hamilton.

Note: I was joking about the cajoled bit ;)

        1. i think rosberg is as much a chance to win if hamilton is. but i think the merc flame will burn out as the year goes on, especially if pirelli now make new tyres after todays failure (though i think merc may have already tested the new kevlar tyres).
mercs upturn in performance is too inline with the 1000km of testing they did. i think they will come down to earth but, they never develop their car well over the year (when they dont have 3 free days of testing). Alonso has a much better chance of the championship i feel also, he has proved over the past 3 years he is a more complete driver then mercs drivers.

            I always do. ;)

  6. Mercedes have tainted this championship to say the least. Kimi needs to leave Lotus, not sure if he has other options but I think Reb Bull is the best chance he has to win another WDC, specially after Allison’s departure.

I would say Mercedes have breathed life into what was quickly turning into another Vet home run.

          By cheating…

No, by pushing the boundaries. which is something that every F1 team does.

          1. FIA disagree with you there buddy.

          2. was more then pushing the boundaries, they were convicted as cheating, did you miss that part??

FIA disagree with you there buddy.

A bunch of overpaid, inconsistent, stifling, don’t know how to run a bath suits would, wouldn’t they…

        3. They didn’t cheat. They were helping improve tyre safety in f1, which after today is needed.

Do you also have a problem with Ferrari tests ? They have another one booked next week in a 2011 car but with 2013 bits on it. They have also had two additional tests where they were able to dictate the running order and make changes throughout the test unlike Mercedes.

Everyone loves it when Alonso closes the gap to Vettel but when Mercedes have a good result they are cheating ? Contradiction city on here lately.

          1. Mercedes may not have been outright cheating, but regardless of what they claim, I don’t think anyone believes Merc were only interested in “helping to improve tire safety.” The team got the opportunity to test, exploited it, and ultimately got away with it. The 2 wins and dramatic improvement in race pace suggest that Mercedes learned a little about their car while conducting these tests.

I don’t have any problem with what they did. F1 isn’t about the “spirit of the rules,” it’s about pushing boundaries; which in this case, Mercedes did quite successfully. But I have a hard time believing that Merc was solely out there to help Pirelli.

      2. Well said!

  7. Where would Kimi have come out if he took new tyres? I don’t think he would have been good enough to keep Hamilton and Alonso behind him anyway.

    1. He would have been behind Alonso most likely, having to do the same moves Hamilton and Alonso (and Webber) were doing .

      1. @bascb, Wasn’t Kimi ahead of Alonso when Alonso pitted? In that case, he should have been third, and he would have had it easier, because he wouldn’t have had to pass himself!

        1. Hm, yes. So he would have gotten into the pits ahead and have had to pass one less guy.

        2. He was in 2nd place, so ahead of Webber as well. He would only have needed to pass the TR and FI for 2nd place after the pits and defend against Webber.

  8. Today Vettel lost 15 points to Alonso and 10 to Kimi, his two closet rivals for the WDC, but still I believe he will not be overly worried as Vettel’s RBR looked pretty good till the failure for whatever reason.

With Mercedes improving their tyres situation, I think the championship is hotting up

    1. Vettel lost 30 pts today not 25 as he would have been ahead of Aloson by 51 not 21

      1. The maximum points you can score is 25 so how could he lose 30 points?

        1. Because Alonso gained points (because of his higher place) from Vettel’s mechanical issue.

Real stroke of luck for Alonso, and some undeniably great racing! Couldn’t help but smile at the departing man’s pace during the end. The Championship is back alive, and as a die-hard Alonso fan, I am ecstatic!

    1. I am a Ferrari fan myself, but Ferrari’s abject lack of pace in quali was really shocking. I just hope they can manage to target atleast the 2nd row on a consistent basis from Germany onwards…..

@wsrgo Yeah the lack of quali-pace is disrturbing and really worrying. If Alonso can come up from 9th to 3rd..6th to 2nd in the races – what will he do if he starts from the first or second row? Alonso has said more than once after tomorrow’s quali that they will work on their quali issues – hope they will really make some progresd!

  10. Great drive by Alonso, of course he was lucky, helped by those tyre tragedies, but at lePerezast he needed to show great reflex to stay out of Perez’s blowing rubber. And some good pace towards the end too, considering how the Ferraris pace were this weekend
And brilliant drive by webber as well, but only after he fell down to 15th place, helped bt his typical start. once again.
But momment of the race? The start made by Massa, I saw the replay at least 15 times and still counting, still can’t believe it!

  11. Kimi is under attack from lewis right now … But alonso has to consistently beat vettel every race if he wants a chance for the cup. If vettel wins a couple more , its over
