Lewis Hamilton will sample a DTM car at the championship’s final race weekend of the season at the Hockenheimring next week.

Hamilton will drive passengers around the circuit in Mercedes’ DTM ‘race taxi’ on the Sunday following the Japanese Grand Prix.

“I’m really looking forward to attending the DTM finale at Hockenheim and making a return to the DTM paddock,” said Hamilton.

“I’ve always been part of the Mercedes-Benz family right from the start of my career in motor racing. During my two years in the Formula Three Euro Series, I was really in my element on those DTM weekends.”

A competition to win a ride around the track with Hamilton is being run by broadcaster SWR3.

  1. The 2005 F3 Euroseries season, which Hamilton dominated had six out of the ten rounds that year were held in Germany! Nurburgring, Norisring, Oschersleben, Lausitzring and two at Hockenheimring.

  2. Ex F1 drivers have never done very well in DTM.

    1. ….and ex-DTM drivers have never really done well in F1 :-)

      1. @apsiloritis A German guy from Kerpen, who lives in Switzerland now and will participate in the year-end Race of Champions, might disagree with you.

      2. Paul Di Resta’s an Ex-DTM driver (2010 DTM champion in fact) & he hasn’t done too badly in F1.

Hamilton likes to sample cars doesn’t he?
I still remember that really funny commercial he did with one of the guy from NASCAR.

  4. Thought Hamilton was going to be RACING a DTM car when I first saw the title, sadly I jumped to conclusions. F1’s a full time commitment now, no exceptions.

  5. He is not approaching retirement of f1 even he is the fourth or fifth driver for a few seasons and only with the best car may be able to barely snatch another championship.

    1. Let me guess … you don’t have a very good opinion of Hamilton. Too bad!

    2. Well he is the ONLY guy who won at least a single race in the last 7 years no matter what machinery he was given! He is always consistently competing with the top 3 drivers every year.

  6. I am expecting Hamilton will comment after sampling the DTM car “It is so much fun when you get to push to the limit because the tyres are not a factor here. Unlike in F1, where we have Pirelli tyres”.
