In 1972 Brands Hatch was host to the European Grand Prix,It was quite late in the season, I think.
I lived in Derby at that time and was 19 years old.
The day before, Saturday, I went with some friends to the Motor show at Earls Court. I left my friends at about 10.30pm and then started to walk, overnight, from London to Brands Hatch.  I had the intention of thumbing a lift, but there was nobody about and so I ended up walking the whole way.
I got to the circuit at about six the next morning, found a hedge row and slept for a couple of hours.
When the gates opened I went in and had breakfast there.
Back then it was possible to walk just about all around the track, which I did through the day.
It was a terrific day and I really enjoyed my self.
When it came time to go home I got a lift in a Reliant three wheeler!! all the way to the station in London and then slept all the way back to Derby.

    A perfect weekend!

    Nigel
