Audi begin with a bang as it is Timo Scheider on pole ahead of BMW’s Augusto Farfus. 2009 F3 Euroseries runner-up Christian Vietoris and 2011 Formula Renault 3.5 champion Robert Wickens make it an all-Mercedes 2nd row. The rest of the positions are as follows:

6. Gary Paffett(Mercedes)
7. Bruno Spengler(BMW)
8. Pascal Wehrlein(Mercedes)
9. Joey Hand(BMW)
10. Daniel Juncadella(Mercedes)

Wehrlein was a big surprise. While his contemporaries were racing in single-seaters in that very venue, Wehrlein went fastest in Q2 and ultimately settled for P8 on his debut. Former F1 driver Timo Glock was P15.

Shame Glock had to retire, he was actually up in P2 when he made a mistake, went wide and fell back to P7. I’ll be cheering him on from now on!
