I thought in light of the current see-sawing championship I’ve decided to revive this old thread I did, just for the hell of it.

Vergne – 114th May 2012, 5:55 at 5:55 am #201719plushpileParticipantCan you update to show the 2012 points in parenthesis as a reference.
14th May 2012, 5:59 at 5:59 am #201720raymondu999ParticipantI didn’t put it up there because honestly it wouldn’t make much difference – there’s not much to be seen there, but what IS interesting is how the placements would change between old and new points systems. Such as Button in China being joint leader with Lewis, and how Alonso wouldn’t be equal on points with Vettel (as of this post)
14th May 2012, 8:20 at 8:20 am #201721KingsharkParticipantConstructors:
1. Red Bull – 45
2. Mclaren – 38
3. Lotus – 34
4. Ferrari – 24
5. Mercedes – 16
6. Williams – 16
7. Sauber – 12
8. Force India – 5
9. Toro Rosso – 1Interestingly, Alonso and Rosberg would be the only ones to have scored for their teams so far this year. Likewise, the new point system doesn’t truly allow us to acknowledge how close this season really is.
14th May 2012, 8:30 at 8:30 am #201722raymondu999ParticipantYeah – the thing is, because all of the points in the new system are more, basically the gap gets multiplied along with the points (basic algebra: 2X-2Y = 2 x (X-Y)
14th May 2012, 10:00 at 10:00 am #201723matt90ParticipantHamilton loses out a fair bit in the old system.
14th May 2012, 10:08 at 10:08 am #201724raymondu999Participant@matt90 what makes you say that?
14th May 2012, 10:16 at 10:16 am #201725matt90ParticipantHe’s gone to 5 points behind instead of 8- from 1/3 of a race win behind to 1/2. It isn’t as big a drop as I thought admittedly, although it does put him also level with another 2 drivers.
6th June 2012, 9:44 at 9:44 am #201726raymondu999ParticipantMonaco update
Alonso – 30
Vettel – 30
Webber – 30
Rosberg – 24
Hamilton – 24
Raikkonen – 20
Button – 18
Grosjean – 14
Maldonado – 11
Perez – 9
Kobayashi – 7
Senna – 5
di Resta – 7
Massa – 3
Hulkenberg – 1
Vergne – 17th June 2012, 3:42 at 3:42 am #201727plushpileParticipantInteresting that the top 3 are equal and Rosberg equal to Hamilton.
Percentage wise Button is probably about equal to under the 2012 points
7th June 2012, 3:48 at 3:48 am #201728raymondu999ParticipantYes the differences mainly come out if you’ve come in 2nd place before – and also if you’ve come in 9th or 10th. Otherwise it’s pretty much the same all the way through.
7th June 2012, 4:47 at 4:47 am #201729KingsharkParticipantI honestly miss the old point system. Getting P 9 or 10 is too much of a gift for points imo. Also, the championship looks much closer with the older system.
2003-09 point system all the way imo.
EDIT: Wow, I just realized that, had we used the 2003-09 point system today, Schumacher would yet have to score a point this year! Truly shows what awful the luck of a dog’s he’s had this season.
7th June 2012, 5:11 at 5:11 am #201730raymondu999ParticipantWhether or not it’s close, we have to apply a multiple of 2.5 to normalise.
Here:
Alonso – 75 (76)
Vettel – 75 (73)
Webber – 75 (73)
Rosberg – 60 (59)
Hamilton – 60 (63)
Raikkonen – 50 (51)
Button – 45 (45)
Grosjean – 35 (35)
Maldonado – 27.5 (29)
Perez – 22.5 (22)
Kobayashi – 17.5 (19)
di Resta – 17.5 (21)
Senna – 12.5 (15)
Massa – 7.5 (10)
Hulkenberg – 2.5 (7)
Vergne – 2.5 (4)7th June 2012, 5:14 at 5:14 am #201731ed24f1ParticipantOnce again, the old system proves to give a closer result than the new system. I really wish that we never moved away from the 2003-09 system.
7th June 2012, 5:31 at 5:31 am #201732duncanmonzaParticipantIt’d be cool if you put the ranking up for each driver too.
