We all remember the bit of controversy last year with Ferrari’s barcode design and its alleged subliminal Marlboro advertising.

Obviously, Formula 1 does not tolerate subliminal advertising by tobacco companies, but what about other organizations. Lately I have been realizing a few secret subliminal sponsorship deals and here I will reveal them.
Is Lotus-Renault GP subliminally advertising JPS cigarettes? No, but they likely have a secret deal done with UPS, probably to compete with FedEx, which has had prominent badging on Ferrari and McLaren for years.

There is no denying that Red Bull Racing is sponsored by the country of Russia. Can you deny that those are Russian flags all along the sidepods of the RB7? It is only a matter of time before we see a name change to Russia Red Bull Racing Renault.

14th April 2011, 8:12 at 8:12 am #166922TrueF1GritMemberI’m sorry but, I don’t agree with much here. The Bovril and Russia “Russia Red Bull Racing Renault” is complete nonsense, the Lotus-Renault UPS sponsorship is too.
Albeit, you may be true, but it’s highly, highly doubtful, but I enjoyed this.
14th April 2011, 8:57 at 8:57 am #166923DoanceParticipantThe UPS and the Bovril ones are stupid. It does kind of look like a Russian flag on the RBR though.
14th April 2011, 9:05 at 9:05 am #166924AsanatorParticipantI don’t see any silver/Grey stripes on the Russian Flag! I do on a can of redbull though! The others are just nonsense.

Apparently it’s the reason Montoya left midway through 2006 – he wanted taps from Howdens in his motorhome instead as he prefers their customer service…

14th April 2011, 10:36 at 10:36 am #166928butterdoriParticipantIt would be cool if Ferrari lubricate their engines with Bovril
14th April 2011, 10:49 at 10:49 am #166929TommyBParticipant*Facepalm* Some jokes really are wasted on people. Ignore those three comments this is a great new thread!

14th April 2011, 12:54 at 12:54 pm #166931AnonymousInactiveAll that grey on Last Year’s Hispania was actually a sponsor. They were just equally as depressing.
14th April 2011, 13:11 at 1:11 pm #166932nikMemberbit of a *woosh* at the beginning there but the thread recovered well :)
thank you for the entertainment
14th April 2011, 13:19 at 1:19 pm #166933AnonymousInactiveApparently Ferrari are sponsored by Italy -.-
14th April 2011, 13:28 at 1:28 pm #166934RandomChimpMemberRenault was no promoter of warning tape. I fear its much more sinister than that:

Think of the children!
