More track action due to less milage?

Since it is looking unlikely that there wont be a German grand prix this year, that means the drivers will have 1 less grand prix week end worth of mileage to cover. So will we see more action on track on Fridays? It might even help Daniel Kvyat or Alonso/ Magnussen (who each had engine problems in Melbourne), so they are not as disadvantaged as they could have been.

Or do you think the FIA/ teams will agree to race at different circuit instead? I think something similar happened in 1997 when Jerez held the race (instead of Estoril who’s owners were having financial issues) but think that was agreed before the season started.

Not really sadly. Alonso/Ricciardo have to make 3 engines last 18 races – that’s 6 races per engine! Even more than 5 per engine for 4 engines and 20 races!

Hockenheim WAS the replacement circuit for Nurburgring!

We might see an increase in track action over other weekends, but it will be rather minimal. If a driver would do some 600km of running during the weekend (300km in practice & qualifying and 300km in the race) which then would be distributed over the 19 other weekends, we get around 30km per weekend – some 6 laps around most circuits. Spread that further over practice sessions, and you’ll get 2 more laps per practice – small increase, but it might be hard to notice.
