With a couple of weeks to go I decided to try installing a second dish to point at Astra 19.2 to pick up RTL.

I have a Humax Foxsat HDR receiver (no sky box) with two tuners, so I bought a cheap DiSEqC switch and a 60cm dish.

The DiSEqC switch takes input from two dishes (the existing one at 28.2 and the new one at 19.2) then the output goes to Tuner 1 on the Humax box.

Pointed the dish at 19.2 using http://www.dishpointer.com/ then followed the instructions to access the secret Humax menu at http://www.astra2d.com/diseqc.html

Depending on the channel you want to watch the Diseqc switch automatically chooses the correct satellite. Now I have RTL and Eurosport Germany + about 300 other channels.

So for about £40 you can pickup RTL

    Hopefully it help someone.

I have done this also..radio 5 live is a couple of seconds ahead of the TV so that is a problem for me in order to listen to english commentary..

The delay is a slight problem (same with live timing) but with something like VLC I believe you can delay the audio stream by a couple of seconds to sync it all up.

Something I forgot to mention is that the Diseqc switch lives outside near the dishes, so there’s no extra cabling to go in/out of the house. Just a couple of short pieces about a 1.5m each to link the two dishes to the switch.

VLC is a media player. It’s the best there is, in my opinion. It plays virtually every file format you could think of without making a fuss, and it has loads of useful options. It’s free and open source; you can get it at http://www.videolan.org/vlc/.

Go to http://bbcstreams.com/ and paste the link into the Open Stream… dialogue in VLC

Does this help? It’s a blow by blow account regarding setting one up.

Are there rights restrictions on F1 races on 5 live for people living in Ireland?
