Here’s a topic for videos of the best laps in motorsport.
First that come to mind are the following:
Kubica vs. Massa, Fuji 2007: https://www.youtube.com/v/5qjQiOJpHBM
Villeneuve vs. Arnoux, Dijon 1979: https://www.youtube.com/v/kl2tIFxSEGA
Hamilton vs. Raikkonen, Spa 2008: https://www.youtube.com/v/7FzNZSaKOsQ
The last laps of the Monaco GP 1982: https://www.youtube.com/v/0UG-adctePU
Indy 500 2006 finnish: https://www.youtube.com/v/rl4VBna4tjM

It trumps the others because we all know F1 can be incredible in the wet. This was a flat out battle in the dry for a the second step on the last lap. Imagine if you were watching it on telly. The ultimate squeaky bum moment

11th June 2010, 6:33 at 6:33 am #135305RucknarParticipantHave to agree it’s Dijon but Massa vs Kubica was amazing to watch!
11th June 2010, 9:16 at 9:16 am #135306Dan ThornParticipantGotta be Dijon, but how about the last 10 laps or so of the 1957 German GP or some of Senna’s qualifying laps? Also liked the end of the 2005 European GP…

without a doubt the most controversial and exciting final laps to an endurance race i’ve ever seen. Seriously, racing fans, watch this. Yes its not F1 but we have to branch out sometimes :P
There is an attempt at a move like Hakkinen/Schumacher Spa, there is wheel to wheel racing like Hamilton/Raikkonen at Spa or Villeneuve/Arnoux and then massive controversy at the end. Brilliant

Especially as a Hamilton and Vettel fan!
Suprised no one has mentioned Senna’s first lap of Donington yet, that is the one that always gets mentioned.
11th June 2010, 12:54 at 12:54 pm #135310IcthyesParticipantI think it’s because it’s always mentioned. Likewise the end of the 1992 Monaco Grand Prix, which the BBC showed a million times last year and sucked all the fun out of it.
I would have loved to have seen the first lap of the 1998 Japanese Grand Prix from Schumacher’s perspective, going from last to 12th, but the cameras showed none of it!
PS: Video of Hamilton onboard at the end of the 2008 Brazilian Grand Prix

Watch when he realises he’s won the title!
11th June 2010, 16:16 at 4:16 pm #135311therealjacksonMemberMy favorite lap/laps from outside of F1 in the last year or two has to be the end of the Catalan MOTO GP last year. Although I have a wavering interest in motorcycle racing, the battle between Rossi and Lorenzo for the last five minuets was fantastic.
11th June 2010, 16:28 at 4:28 pm #135312sw6569Participant@therealjackson wow thanks for pointing that battle out! incredible. Found a slightly longer version of it here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=47K2q6-yYYQ&feature=fvsr
(ignore the stupid introduction of that video)
@Tom L I think Bergmeister and Magnussen both got warnings rather than penalties. Crazy driving though!
11th June 2010, 17:46 at 5:46 pm #135313IlaninParticipantMansell and Senna on the last two laps of the 1986 Spanish Grand Prix looked incredible, though I admit to being a bit too young to have seen it first-hand. Still, even when I knew what happened the racing was still incredibly tense.
11th June 2010, 18:13 at 6:13 pm #135314matt88ParticipantBrazil 2008, last lap. As thrilling as hell.
11th June 2010, 20:35 at 8:35 pm #135315RatboyKeymasterWhat about Heidfelds last lap of Spa 08
and Alonsos too https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AmOixmxpXF4

I think qualifying laps deserve a mention too. Jarno Trulli’s pole lap from Monaco 2004 was probably the best qualifying lap I’ve ever seen
