Charles Leclerc would have set a new F2/GP2 record for setting his seventh consecutive pole position today but his car failed a technical inspection.

The scrutineers found his Prema team had “used shims in the differential which did not comply with the material requirements laid out in the Dallara User Manual”.

The Ferrari-backed driver will therefore start from last in tomorrow’s feature races. Oliver Rowland, who Leclerc had beaten by 0.463 seconds, will start from pole position.
