No @PT Overtaking isn’t racing, Racing is competing to be the fastest from one point to another. Overtaking can be a by product of racing. Following the leader IS racing if the leader is the fastest car/driver combination from point to point and the second car is the 2nd fastest from point to point.
Just because there has been no overtaking doesn’t mean that there has not been a race.
5th August 2015, 14:01 at 2:01 pm #302893AsanatorParticipant@PT The whole thing is starting to sound exceptionally gimmicky to me.
Gimmick – a trick or device intended to attract attention, publicity, or trade (or in this case overtaking). – pretty much sums up your proposal.
I agree wholeheartedly with Dragols first post, I don’t need a Hungary 2015 every race and in fact would prefer not to have that. I managed to watch most of the 80’s, throughout the 90’s to date with many many seasons where there were only a handful of overtakes of note.
For me F1 is a sport, not entertainment, a race and not a show.

@Rodney well there have been a few injuries/deaths down to head injuries over many many years the majority of which a closed cockpit wouldn’t have helped. And why do we need a fully enclosed cockpit when a simple screen would solve the majority of problems that people who seem to want closed cockpits use as their arguments.4th August 2015, 16:42 at 4:42 pm #302868AsanatorParticipantSo for example last year, when both Hamilton and Rosberg at points made a mess of qualifying for whatever reason or started from the back of the grid and with their massive performance advantage manage to drive through the field to 2nd place, you would be happy giving them effectively double points in the championship?
As far as I am concerned, the points system should reflect the results of the race and the championship positions reflect each teams results over a season, not the ‘story’ of a race or race build up.
Would we not start seeing teams who have the performance to finish say 3rd-5th deliberately qualifying down the order so that they can ‘top-up’ their points total by overtaking cars that are easier meat? Knowing the way that F1 teams optimise their performance and strategies, this is exactly the way your suggestion will go.
4th August 2015, 16:32 at 4:32 pm #302867AsanatorParticipantnonsense, cars evolved from the “narrow tyre cigar-shaped front engine machines” as you call them for performance reasons, not aesthetic reasons. Closed cockpits are an over reaction to a safety problem that they will not solve.
4th August 2015, 16:13 at 4:13 pm #302863AsanatorParticipantNope, F1 doesn’t need closed cockpits!

@Tom_ec1 Yes they started of poorly in 2009 however it was because the hadn’t realised the performance that could be gained from developing front wing end plates, the chassis and engine was pretty good already. Once they saw what the other constructors had done it was relatively easy to claw that performance back. They didn’t really ‘develop’ that much other than that, they do like to perpetuate their ‘in season development’ myth though!21st April 2015, 11:55 at 11:55 am #297280AsanatorParticipantSchumacher, Clark, Prost, Senna, Lauda
