Thanks for the mention! I’m not 100% sure yet if I’ll buy a PS4, or if so when, but if I do I would probably be keen to play.

Really really gutted, was having a very strong race and was 1 second off the lead and it drops out – my first connection loss of the whole season. Really low note to end the season…

Very poor day for me unfortunately. In qualifying i had several scrappy laps before I finally put one together after the flag to jump to 5th. Got a decent start, but dropped to 6th by being on the outside at Turn 1. Then, two cars collided at Curva Grande, so I moved up to 4th, and I was suddenly right behind David. Then into Roggia there was a bit of a concertina as he braked earlier than I expected. I hit him and slightly spun then I was hit heavily from behind into the wall. I got stuck in a gap in the wall. So after another off later in the lap, by the end of Lap 1, i was already 17 seconds behind 2nd last…

After that, I managed to get back involved when David and Geoff had some sort of collision and I was ahead of David and right behind Geoff from memory. Then, after first pitstops, Damon started to catch me. With better tyres, he got past me on exit of Rettifilo chicane. Then, into Roggia he braked a bit earlier than I thought, so I tipped him into a spin unfortunately. I waited for him to go past again which was about 10 seconds lost. After this I got erratic as i was very frustrated at myself and got a penalty for corner cutting.

From there on, there wasn’t much I could do, but i had a decent battle with Geoff and JF without any real battles. So the 10 second penalty cost me a spot to JF in the end which was also frustrating. So in the end it was a bit of a missed opportunity considering I gave up about 30 seconds during the race just parked at Roggia alone.

Reasonably happy with my qualifying to get 5th (which became 4th after Damon quit). Race started with a lag incident at Turn 1 which left me spinning off and dropping to 2nd last. I was lucky to pass two cars later that lap when they tangled, I think Geoff and Jamie from memory. After that, Steve got past me into Turn 1. But then, he spun trying to pass Bob after the former Singapore Sling chicane.

After that, I managed to get past Bob myself, just, and then caught up to David. He was lagging a bit, so I decided to pit early and go for undercut, even though I had primes on. This worked, and I suddenly had a big gap behind me after everyone pitted. But of course my tyres were older, so Jamie began to catch me at around 1 second a lap. It started to drizzle, but it was hard to estimate how much the lack of grip was down to old tyres or slippery track.

In the end, Jamie, who had been right on my tail for 2/3 laps, and I pitted on the same lap for inters. After that, we kept in close proximity for next 5/10 laps. The one major moment was when I didn’t notice he was along side me into chicane before Anderson Bridge, and we bumped. It wasn’t comfortable, but I was able to prevent Jamie from making any real headway before I hit the wall with 4 laps left and lost 3rd, frustratingly. After that, I couldn’t catch him in the laps remaining, but luckily inherited a podium anyway due to Electrolite’s penalties.

Had a really fun race, unexpectedly. Haven’t touched F1 2013 for 3 weeks, and apart from 5 practice laps 30 mins before race start, went in cold. But somehow I can always find a good rhythm at Monaco unlike some tracks. Qualifying went pretty well considering i did my lap without putting Rich Fuel on, and on primes that were 3 laps old. Got 4th.

My start wasn’t great, dropped to 5th/6th through Turn 1, I forget now. Then, into Nouvelle Chicane on the first lap, I tried a dive bomb on JF but couldn’t stop in time so missed corner. So I let him past on the way to Tabac, but i don’t think he knew i was doing this for a while so hesitated haha. In the meantime, I passed a car or two that had spun at the chicane.

After that, there were a few incidents behind me, so I had no real pressure on. This was perfect, as I could just run my own race. I was a couple of tenths slower than JF ahead of me. There really wasn’t much to report in the middle stages of the race apart from the fact that I gradually dropped back to about 7s behind JF, and kept gaining on the battling group behind me as they presumably kept having incidents. Since I started on primes, I decided to do two stints on options at the end, so I pitted on lap 10/23/31.

In the 3rd stint, JF had some problems and I started to catch him. I held back because I thought he may have to pit again, and instead would try and undercut. When I did pit on Lap 31, I unfortunately came out 0.5 s behind bradley. Obviously on new options i was much faster, and got past into Mirabeau on the next lap. On my screen I braked so much later that I was completely along side at apex, so didn’t think it was an inappopriate move. But this delay did cost me time.

The next few laps I plodded along trying to improve my PB, and then with a few laps left I could see that I was really closing in on 3rd, as their tyres were presumably dying. With 4 laps left it was 15 seconds, 3 it was 12 and then with 2 left only 6. Coming into the last lap, I caught Bob, and passed him on exit of St. Devote with superior traction. I was still 2.5/3 behind JF, but caught him through the lap. On the exit of Rascasse, couldn’t resist a lunge, but he turned in (fair enough) and I was squeezed into the wall and had to settle for 3rd. Maybe I should have waited for the run to the line, but adrenaline got the better of me.

All in all it was a pleasant surprise to be back on the podium! Well done to Damon for dominant win!

Sorry guys, the last week or two I’ve lost track of what day it was – and on Sunday after getting home from a 12 hour day at the Ashes, wasn’t thinking and ended up going to bed about the time you guys were racing…

I would like to join, but most weeks at that time I’m watching Premier League. But maybe I could do a few guest appearances at some point though!

Pretty awful race for me at Suzuka, was really tired so most of it was a blur. Was already so far down due to some incidents (one caught up in Lap 1 melee, one hit off by Bradley at Turn 2 – probably lag) so went for highly risky tyre strategies which put me even further behind. But since i’d done no practice at the track during the week, not sure how much better I would have done anyway.

Well i could probably write a thesis about this race! :P

Decided not to qualify to preserve tyres and try to avoid chaos at Turn 1. It actually worked reasonably well! Got up to 4th after a lap or two taking advantage of people spinning off and also passing people who went wide. This was perfect as I was in clean air, which allowed me to run my own pace. I was about 4/5 seconds ahead of Electrolite and about 10 behind Bradley in 3rd. So I kept going as planned until my pitstop on Lap 11, by which point I was leading. Electrolite pitted a lap earlier so gained about a second.

Then I made an error at the Turn 11/12 chicane which cost me about 3/4 seconds and Electrolite got through. Then, this was compounded by Damon coming out of his pitstop just ahead of Electrolite – so basically the error cost me 2 spots. After this, there was some of the most exciting online racing I’ve ever been part of. It started at Turn 3, when I pulled off – if I do say so myself – an excellent double overtake, passing both Electrolite and Damon. Then after that, I was defending for the next stint, as obviously the double DRS zone with one activation point made it very difficult to pull away. A few times I went side by side with Damon into corners, but was able to keep the inside line and end up in front.

Coming up to Lap 22, and Electro and I both pitted for options. I then pulled a bit of a gap, before there was a bit of chaos on Lap 24 (?) when I got blocked by a lap car just after I overtook Damon coming out of the pits – and then in the background Damon and Electro both spun. So I now had a bit of a comfortable gap but I also had to put the engine on lean to save fuel. So Electro started to pull the gap back, and with 2 laps left it was about 2 seconds. I then got caught up behind a lapped car again which meant him and Damon were right on my tail.

I got a poor exit out of the penultimate corner, Damon went down inside, tried to go around the outside him onto main straight but hit wall and stopped perpendicular to track… Then had to try and flick spin which proved difficult to do quickly, thought I would go invisible based on previous F1 games, but this didn’t seem to happen and I almost accidentally took Electro out. The flick spin destroyed my already worn tyres, so the last lap was like I was on ice. slrmm caught me at about 4 seconds in the first 2 sectors, and once again I got wheelspin out of penultimate corner and he overtook me into last corner. Then, I ran out of fuel, so Geoff got past on the run to the flag.

Overall, considering I was 3rd until about 95 seconds to go, it was frustrating to come 7th, but I had a lot of fun in the race and I was reasonably happy with my pace so it wasn’t all bad. It was extremely intense and competitive and I am just disappointed I made a couple of mistakes but it was hard not to considering the extreme pace.
