I returned to simracing last year after moving to Spain from Argentina, so now, if I have the money, I can actually buy the stuff I desire, like rigs, and wheelbases and the lot.

But of course, it’s costly, so you’ve got to start small and go in steps. I got a Thrustmaster T300RS GT wheel and pedals set. I didn’t want to start off again with Logitech (I had a G27 back in Argentina, basically the best wheel you could get from retailers there), so I searched for an alternative. The T300 is a great entry wheel, despite the reliability concerns. As long as you keep the fans on all the time, you’re fine. It’s belt driven through a brushless motor so it’s both stronger than the Logitech G and far, far smoother. I’d say it’s midway through a Logitech G and a Fanatec CSL Elite.

The pedals, tho, are rubbish. Even the RS GT version with the upgraded T3PA pedals. It comes with a rubber cone that acts as a stopper for the brake, as a way to simulate a load cell but it’s rather hopeless. I found it very difficult in certain cars in iRacing (the sim I use) to modulate the brake… it took ages adjusting the settings for every car.

I quickly used my “being in Europe” card and bought a set of Elite Load Cell pedals from Fanatec. Best investment ever in terms of gaming. Immediately trimmed seconds of my laptimes, and could hit them consistently.

Maybe someone’s looking for ideas to start, so I’d recommend getting the standard Thrustmaster T300, without the extra cost of the pedals which are rubbish, and once you get a feel of the sims you’re racing, get load cell pedals. Either Thurstmaster’s own or Fanatecs.

I’m with @ben-n Drivers come first, constructors are just secondary.

I always thought Frank firing Mansell and Hill had its roots on him wanting to put his products ahead of his drivers, which I think it worked. Their dominance in the 90s is probably the period where I think more about their Rothmans livered cars than the guys at the wheel…

But returning to what Briatore said, I guess in hindsight it doesn’t bode well for him, because all I think of that Benetton are the claims that it was an illegal car.

That 2010 Gala clip is awesome, such a wonderful season that one, and you cannot miss it if you chose ace of spades for the tense meltdown between monza and abu dhabi that year!

I still don’t like it… specially that engine noise thingy.

Heck no, don’t ditch it! I love the discussions between F1Fanatic members. Driver of the Day is probably going to be via Twitter and that sucks.

The good thing about the Driver of the Weekend here is that we get to see why we think someone deserves the award. We comment about it together and we end up with a conclusion in the poll, taking into consideration, not just the race, but the overall weekend. Plus, Keith, you sum up eveyr driver’s performance and that makes a great comparision during the season.

F1F’s Driver of the Weekend > Anything else.

Michael Schumacher: he had many. The ones I remember more vividly were Brazil 2006 and Hungary 1998. China 2006, tho, was just epic from him. I’ll never forget that night, watching it alone in my living room and cheering so hard I woke up my mother when he overtook Fisico on the inside at turn 2!

Mark Webber: probably Nurburgring 2009. A lot going on there.

Fernando Alonso: I think his best ever drive was Hungary 2006. He didn’t finish, but he could’ve well won. His first lap there, for me, ties with Senna’s magic lap at Donington. Valencia 2012 is a good one but everyone ahead either crashed or retired, so not the best. Malaysia 2012 was a good one too.

Lewis Hamilton: uhm… Silverstone 2008. Maybe also Nurburgring 2011, that was a great 3 way battle with Mark and Fernando.

Jenson Button: Canada 2011, no doubt.

Sebastian Vettel: could well be Belgium 2012! he fought from start to finish. Abu Dhabi 2012 was good too but the car was specifically set up to recover from the pitlane start and overtaking, and he was already the fastest there in qualy. At Spa in 2012 he was far from fastest, and he still made it work.

Felipe Massa: Brazil 2008, the pressure at home, and with the championship down to the wire must’ve been terribly tense for him. Sad it didn’t work out in the end.

Buenos Aires is probably listed as “to be confirmed” because of the Goverment and Presidential elections. Considering that this year’s race was impulsed by the Buenos Aires governor, who’s now pushing for President, I bet they are waiting to discuss it.

RACER has confirmed through multiple sources that Hinchcliffe had the steel wishbone enter and exit his right leg, then enter his upper left thigh, and continue into his pelvic region before it came to a stop.

I have to say, I don’t understand oval racing… I’m wishing all the drivers the best and hope the race takes place without incident.

I’m with @fastiesty , Alonso’s first lap at Hungary 2006 was just mindblowing. Watching the replay, how the drives through the field, finding grip everywhere besides the racing line. And that flamboyant driving style he had back in those days, throwing the steering on turn in. Fantastic.
