@balue I remember reading on Twitter that F1TV had a problem at the start, that’s probably the reason behind the alternative commetary.

I think it’s just to be precise, so that no stickler misunderstands seven hundredths (seven one hundredths as in 7/100) to be 1/700 (one seven hundredths).

No. I was really excited about the series before it started in 2014, but even the races that were labeled crazy or something, they bored me (maybe the 2014 Punta del Este race was the most exciting), and I rarely watched races after 2017. I watched the Berlin finale last summer for lack of a better program, and it’s good that they got rid of the car swapping, but the new boost zone or whatever it’s called makes the show even worse than the fanboost. The cars look like a struggle to drive and it’s almost painful to watch (kudos to Loic Duval saying something like this a while ago; I don’t get why they don’t use slick tires), and the city tracks are completely non-interesting, and the coverage was never too captivating, interesting. Plus the constant hyping up the series by Agag and the like, when it’s clear that the public interest in the series isn’t growing quickly, was really annoying, while at the same time you couldn’t get news about the series on race day if you weren’t following the right journalists, because they crammed all the running in one day and the news sites couldn’t keep up.

Maybe some of the things improved in the last few years, but whenever I caught glimpses of the series, it didn’t look any better than before. Overall in my opinion, it’s a bad show presented badly.

@jeanrien I mean a return to 1 hour qualifying :) There is no need for sprint races if we already have 20+ races in a season.

I think they should have a 1 hour race on Saturday, and the grid for the Sunday race should be based on the fastest lap times in that Saturday race. We could call it something like “qualifying race”, or just “qualifying” for short.

(yes I liked the classic 1 hour qualifying format around 2000 the most, why do you ask?)

Only time will tell… So, is there a @time on this site?

We’re one week away from first practice, and this is the first I read about the layout choice, it looks like it will be the fast first turn. I agree with Russell, I’m not a big simulator driver but I’ve always had an issue with track limits there.

I asked @keithcollantine just today on Twitter about this, but he said he hasn’t heard anything official about it yet either.

Driving wise the fast first turn would probably be more fun, but for racing, I also think it’s better if they go with the tight turn.

I only had provisional plans, so I wasn’t badly affected. I had no F1 plans (I’m not too keen on watching that in person), but I wanted to go to the WTCR rounds that were to be in close proximity to me, so Hungaroring, Slovakiaring and Salzburgring, and maybe one MotoGP race at Brno or the Red Bull Ring and a GT event, and I had nothing booked (although they would have been mostly one-day trips by car) or no tickets bought, but still a shame. However even if they are held with spectators, I won’t attend this year.

Most recent Free Practice drivers in order of first appearance, in which case the last one is Naoki Yamamoto.

I wonder whether or not it will be investigated if Sirotkin came up too quickly on Hamilton and passed him in a dangerous manner…

Alright, I’ll try my luck, but I’ll let someone else write a new quiz if it’s correct.

They are one time F1 race winners in chronological order (1st one being Johnnie Parsons) – technically only those who won a race driving alone, because Luigi Fagioli won between Wallard and Taruffi, but he shared cars with Fangio and Fagioli himself was 11th at the checkered flag.
So if we don’t count Fagioli, the 5th one on the list is Bob Sweikert.

I was wondering about technical feedback recently just as @hahostolze suggested, so if you could ask them about it that would be greatly appreciated. My question in that area is, how far can you go back when you want to give a comparison to your engineers to what feeling would you like from the car, given the constant development throughout the season? Or can you even reference back to earlier cars? Just as an example, could the Mercedes drivers suggest at this test some setup based completely on the W08 if they don’t like the current car’s handling on the first day?

@ben-n My quiz was already solved by David (maybe you sent this comment a few days ago? shame because you were kind of correct), look for his one on the previous page. (I think I know the answer but I’ll sit this one out).

@davidnotcoulthard Well done, over to you. For anyone that didn’t check the link, it’s about the longest time between first and last pole for a driver. Schumacher obviously would have been first by 3 years ahead of Rubens if he could have kept the pole in Monaco 2012.

Yeah, I was a bit surprised as well that Lauda didn’t score a pole after his return.
