Here are a few pictures of my experience at the Mexican GP. I went there with my dad who has assisted at least one GP in each of the periods in which F1 was in town. He was saying how he used to camp all weekend with his high-school buddies and just barbecue and watch the races all weekend! I guess times have changed :) anyway, here are a few pictures, videos and thoughts on the Mexican GP 2015
(Disclaimer: It was my first GP so I have no way of comparing it to anything else. All prices are in GBP adjusted to PPP with nominal in brackets):
Best way to get to the Autodromo is by metro. Its fast, straightforward, safe and cheap. A one-way trip anywhere in the network is 0.42 (0.20).
On Friday and Sunday we were sitting down on the curves after the second straight. It was a lovely section with plenty of curves which unfortunately did not translate into a lot of action. We were sitting right in front of the Bottas-Raikkonen melee and we also saw when Sainz missed the corner and had to cut trough the grass just to later give the spot to Perez. Here are some pics and videos of those seats:
Through the circuit there were plenty of areas for chilling. There were some minor music performers and plenty of opportunities to spend money. To give you a taste of the prices, a double Whopper (all food came from chains such as Burger King, Domino’s, Starbucks and local ones like Sushi Itto, El Califa (tacos) and Fisher’s (Sea Food)) was 9.17 (4.35) which was more or less the cost of a beer too. Not too expensive if you earn in GBP and spend in pesos, so come next year!
On Saturday we were on the main straight. Here are a few pictures of the seats there and some food and entertainment areas available:
All in all it was a great experience. There were plenty of people and the atmosphere was one of true celebration. Needless to say, also a place to see and been seen if you are into that kind of thing. Being racing fans, my dad and I arrived before doors opened and made the best out of it. There was the Masters Historic Race and Mexican Formula 4 as preshows. The weather made it possible to have a great experience without it being to cold or too hot. There was a lot of security around the perimeter of the Autodromo. I would say there was a cop standing every 10 meters around the whole circuit of the perimeter. Another thing that was nice, was a shuttle service available for free that would go around the circuit to deliver people to their respective entrances. I would say all in all it was a very well organized event. Next year I am thinking about going to the stadium section since it seemed to have an electric atmosphere.

@loup-garou @keithcollantine please correct me if I am wrong. But considering that Renault has supplied engines only since 1977 it makes the record even more impressive. Although it is possible that they have provided more engines per race hence increasing their chances for pole. Some research would be interesting :)
@Matthijs My girl liked it quite a bit. Specially how it felt real and not a glorified version of sports stories. She particularly liked how it felt like a movie about people and not a movie about F1. Additionally, even though she didn’t mention it, I am sure she didn’t mind Hemsworth being in the film :D
Regarding the Senna “good or bad guy” thing. I feel that they wanted to include some sort of redemption story line at the end of the film but was told to be cut short by the studios if they wanted any kind of screening times at all. I believe that an extra 15 minutes for a documentary that is 104 minutes on its final release cut would have not been very welcomed by movie studios. I base my hunch in that tag at the end where they say that Prost is now the Chairman for the Senna foundation. Don’t get me wrong, I still ADORE the film, but with that extended redemption story would be have been 100% perfect, if I am allowed the expression.
when I invited my girl to see the movie she said “Are you inviting me to a date for yourself?” :D
Anyway, here is my opinion in bulletpoint format:
– Solid performances all in all. Hemsworth is the only source of some skepticism. I just think his acting is very unidimensional (is that a word? I mean to say that it does not have a lot of depth) Bruhl was amazing.
– Great script, beautiful story telling. It takes the plot, with its ups and downs, in a way that is easy to digest but also gripping and almost magnetic.
– Ron Howard is a guarantee of a good movie. Great photography, big production style yet focusing on the smallest details (very much like Apollo 13 in a sense)
– My favorite part of the movie: costume design. I found myself thinking all the time “cool hat”, “awesome tshirt”, etc. And not only for the F1 related gear, but also the “plain clothes”
– Touching end, no good or bad guy (something that “Senna” failed to do)
Those are my main take aways. Unfortunately it wont be a hit in the box office or the awards, but a beautiful rendition of a great story.

Being Mexican I would love to introduce F1F community to Team Rebaque. To this moment, the only Mexican F1 team ever. Next up, my own: Hernandez F1 ;)

Its on an F1 story but here it is:
Pedro Rodriguez was just crowned champion of the interseries sportr car championship. He was invited to drive during a non-championship race in Norisring. Legend has it that Saturday before the race the weather was brutal and the pilots were saying how dangerous it would be to drive in such a weather. At that point Pedro replied: “More dangerous means more fun” He died the next day during the race. #legend :D
I think Rodriguez really suits all three categories. Least remembered (maybe because he didn’t race that much), most underrated (no one even mentions the fact that he qualified second on his first GP! and he still is the youngest ever to start from first row!) and unluckiest (he died before he could make an impact on the sport) a real shame!

There is already such facilities around the world but used for different purposes. For example here in Helsinki there are a number of “service” tunnels that are wide enough to allow a tank to drive through them. Maybe Marussia, could use Moscow’s “Secret Metro” to test :D (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metro-2)
@Bosley If Vodafone leaves McLaren, I would believe it is almost a certainty that America Movil or any of their brands would be happy to take their place. although of course there are probably other companies that might be interested as well.
And yes, both Sergio and Esteban belong to Escuderia Telmex which is a Telmex owned team that helps develop drivers from their infancy. Also from Escuderia Telmex is the new Mexican promise, Franco Aragones :)
