    Update on my previous post:
    Our accommodation fell through.

We booked an apartment through and everything looked fine, but a week ago, the owner of the apartment emailed us to say that the apartment was no longer available! have been really reasonable in finding us somewhere else to stay, even when they couldn’t supply it directly. So we are still going – just staying in a different apartment.

We are now looking for a day-trip into the Caucasus mountains on Monday, because we don’t fly home until Tuesday evening.

OK, so we’ve booked flights, grandstand tickets and accommodation.

Flying Azerbaijan Arlines overnight Thursday to Baku and Tuesday evening back to Heathrow.
Picked the Sahil grandstand as the best compromise between view and price.
Found an apartment 15 minutes walk north of Sahil grandstand for a better price than a similar spec hotel.

We wondered if people would rent out space on their private balconies (like they do in Monaco, with food and drink included in the price), but didn’t want to take the chance on not getting somewhere good to watch the race.

Now just got to keep fingers crossed that the race doesn’t get cancelled!

    Hi Alan,

We have stayed at Cavalier Fields three times now. It used to be listed on the Silverstone web site camping page, but got knocked off last year.

It is a couple of miles from the circuit (Luffield corner), but we take bikes and cycle in. We also like the Fox & Hounds pub in Whittlebury, which is on the way to the circuit.

Cavalier Fields is quiet, well drained, friendly and not as expensive as closer camp sites, but still has a good atmosphere. Don’t go there if you want to be camped on top of your neighbour and party all night (please!)

    Hi Laura,

We went to the Barcelona GP for the first time this year and had a fantastic race. We sat in grandstand ‘G’ (between turns 12 and 13) and could see the cars for 20% of their entire lap time! You can see the circuit map here.

I took a little video with my BlackBerry of Jenson Button in practice to show how much we could see:

A tip: Take your own food to the circuit. I’ve been to Grands Prix in France, Belgium, Italy, Hungary, Austria, Germany and England, but the food at Barcelona was easily the worst on offer.

    Have fun!
