Kids are in final years of school/uni so I can’t pull them out to go to Sg in term time this year as I usually do. So sad! I might have to go by myself.19th October 2017, 5:36 at 5:36 am #353972
Yes, a bit of advice please. I’m looking for undercover seating areas, anyone with ideas? I’d go to the lower priced hospitality options but I’m afraid they’ll be full of drunks on company paid freebies who aren’t really interested in the race.5th September 2017, 12:16 at 12:16 pm #349470
I think transport back is always an issue isn’t it? I’m in the main grandstand and yes, let’s get a F1F group going. We could share a taxi or, at worst, have somebody to talk to while waiting for the shuttle.30th August 2017, 22:55 at 10:55 pm #348847
Damn autocarrot.30th August 2017, 22:55 at 10:55 pm #348846
It looks to me that the organisers are just running out the click on this one. Pity about the entertainment but who knows, the local acts might be awesome.25th August 2017, 13:06 at 1:06 pm #348255
We got into the track through a cruddy little gate directly across from the podium. We’ve also accessed it through a gate near the T1 wheelchair platform. Grab a bit of tyre rubber as a souvenir.
The big plus for me is that Singapore’s track is one of the most easily accessible from public transport or walking from the City hotels. It’s a big factor if you’re with kids (mine were small the first time but are more robust now). The night race is also very scenic with the city lights and the bay.
Singapore also falls at the right time of year in the Australian school holidays schedule so I can take my kids without disrupting their studies. Melbourne is at the worst time of year for us even though it’s just down the road.
F1 live looked like fun.25th August 2017, 12:53 at 12:53 pm #348215
@travelbird12. that’s the inside of T1/2, the grandstand itself is on the outside of the turn. It may be that it’s the paddock club area and inaccessible to regular ticket holders.
After the race you can get into the track to and walk down pit straight. You can check out the garages and see them getting packed up. That’s on Sunday night only of course. After that you can walk down the track (anti clockwise) to get to the Padang area.
This will be our fifth year. We had Zone 1 tickets for 3 years and last year and this year we’ve done the 3 grandstand tickets (Padang pit Stamford). I can’t wait.25th August 2017, 12:26 at 12:26 pm #348196
@travelbird12 AA is set back a bit and you’ll have a good view of that final corner. It’s certainly a better spot than mid-pit lane where the cats are only in view for a second. Lower down you’ll have the catch fencing to deal with but the upside is that you’ll get more of a cooling breeze than further along pit and it’s easy to get onto the track at the end of the race. It’s a fair walk from the village to AA but nothing too serious.
As to walkabout in zone 1. I’ve never had it but I’ve seen people on the inside of the T1/2 area. How they got there I don’t know.8th August 2017, 7:45 at 7:45 am #347753
Turn 3 is great, has hospitality and a/C but is quite expensive. T2 is my pick for the zone 1 area, comparable view to T3 in the western most seats.
A zone 1 for T3 ticket will get you into the Padang area but it’s quite a walk.
SISTIC is the official outlet for tickets, they are highly efficient and have never failed me.8th August 2017, 7:40 at 7:40 am #347752
Turn 3 is great but T2 will save you a bucket of cash and gives you a comparable view. Hospitality at T3 is apparently good but expensive, if you’ve got the cash then go for it. T3 also has an A/C area which might swing your decision. Avoid Bay grandstand, the seats are killers though it does get a nice breeze.
Your T3/T2 ticket will get you into the zone 4 Padang area for getting major concerts but it’s a fair walk. There’s also a stage at the Village in zone 1 but the biggest acts don’t play there.
I always get my tickets direct from SISTIC in Singapore which is the main seller. They’ve always been terrific.23rd July 2017, 2:42 at 2:42 am #346671
Is it possible to walk from the main grandstand area to the F stand? Is there an underpass or is it just a long walk back around the perimeter, or a long wait for transport?
Does F have any screens I can’t see any on the fan youtube clips I’ve seen? Is the commentary on the PA any good or should I bring an FM radio/F1 App?
Is it possible to walk back to the airport? I hear that the wait for the shuttle can be horrendous.20th July 2017, 22:55 at 10:55 pm #346567
Thanks guys. I was thinking of staying at the Hilton or the other big hotels at Sentral. Is Sentral a good area for Nightlife? I want to see some music or at least have a lively restaurant/social area near where I stay.19th July 2017, 22:52 at 10:52 pm #346547
What’s the frequency of the shuttle between the airport and the circuit and vice versa?14th July 2017, 10:53 at 10:53 am #345995
I’ve done 4 Singapore GPs and I’ve never seen the pit walkthrough advertised as a thing. I heard from someone that it was just paddock club people and corporate dudes who get the walkthrough. That or I’m just stupid. Same for autograph sessions.
I found that Bay has a great view lower down in the stand and right up at the top has a nice air con bar. The seats are a bit uncomfortable though, I’d take a pillow for my back if I was in that stand again. A big plus for Bay is that it’s a lot cooler than other stands as you get a nice sea breeze (if it’s blowing of course). Padang and Pit can be sweltering.
The only other issue I had with Bay was that to get to the stages and eateries at Esplanade/Padang you have to go through a bottleneck bridge. Not a big deal but it’s the only route and it can get busy.
I got a three stand pass this year, Stamford, Pit, Padang. Did the same last year with Bay instead of Stamford. It’s a nice couple of combo’s with lots to do. Had Zone 1 tickets for 3 years and I now prefer the zone 2/3 areas but you don’t get the podium and track invasion as you do at zone 1.8th March 2017, 10:21 at 10:21 am #336809
@rachel if you’re down low you’ll be looking through the catch fencing all night so it might be just me but that’s not ideal. The upper levels of T2 are better IMO as you get a clear view. Anything above the vomitories is good. I spent a couple of races in block A6 which is at GE far left of the stand nearer to T3. It gave a good view of all three corners. There’s also a position right under the highway bridge I scoped out once. It gives you a view down our straight, the pit exit, and the back of the cars going through T1-3. Also handy if it rains, which it never does at racetime. Pit grandstand is a bust as far as I’m concerned. It’s virtually all behind Catch fencing and the cars are going so fast you can’t really appreciate them. A comment above says T3 grandstand is good.
