Having won the final race of F1’s 1.5-litre engine era the previous year, Honda returned towards the end of 1966 with a 3-litre car, the RA273. It featured a powerful V12 engine but the car was some 200kg heavier than its rivals.
The car remained in service the following year, when John Surtees finished on the podium in South Africa.
