great race from Schumi, but Button deserves it

Michael Schumacher was the most impressive over the weekend. I feel it’s his understanding of space in relation to the car, the other cars, and the track that allows him to make overtaking moves like the one on Massa and Kobayashi. The Rai 1 announcers (completely biased towards Ferrari) were going crazy with Joy when he passed – as if he were still driving the red car. Then the pathos involved in watching Schumacher’s wife willing him on but knowing deep down it wasn’t going to happen. In any case, great race and reminds me of why I watch and why I feel F1 is proof of what the poet Filippo Tommaso Marinetti declared over 100 years ago that, “A rushing motor car is more beautiful than the Nike of Samothrace”.

    That’s it! I’m making Ramilton t-shirts

Another tough one. Jenson was easily the driver of the day, but I hadn’t really noticed him until Sunday, so it would seem a bit strange to vote for him as driver of the weekend. I had to go with Schumacher, in the end. He went a long way to showing he still has it.

Jenson drove a great race BUt I think alot of people seem to forget that jenson was massively helped out by the safetycar and redflags – without all that help then I wouldve given him driver of the day.

But considering being massively helped by the safetycar a number of times to stay close to the pack; and also the fact that button took out his team mate and alonso – The 2 guys who wouldve finished up infront of him and also because he got away scot free – and considering Schumacher’s brilliant and deserved drive…I give the driver of the day to Michael Schumacher.

    Jenson
    Schumacher
    Liuzzi

    …in that order

Kumui Kobayashi.. That kid knows how to entertain!

Plus he shares his name with a famous fictional Lawyer and he isn’t one of the usual suspects ;)

Schumacher all the way… He looked assured in traffic and sharp when passing, fair when defending and wrung every millisecond of pace out of the tyres and the car. A deserved podium place was sadly snatched from him by the ‘push to pass’ button, which seems to be making overtaking just a little too easy at times (two zones at Montreal was completely unnecessary imho) Button had a good race too and I was glad he won but I think a few more people would have been calling for a penalty if Schumi had been involved in those two incidents – not that I feel either one was anymore than 50/50…

Incidentally, to the 6 people who have voted for Lewis… can I have some of what you’re smoking?!

The comments on Jenson’s collisions are priceless.. I see people saying that if Hamilton hits anyone he is just being a racing driver and getting picked on by the stewards, but when Hamilton drives straight into the back of Jenson and then Alonso turns in on him after the apex of a corner.. then it’s Jenson’s fault lol!!!

If you try to drive round the outside of anyone in the wet and you get pushed off then it’s tough luck it’s not always a bad move but it’s risky and certainly never the car in front to blame (within reason).

I reckon Hamilton just wanted some alone time with Rihanna. The dirty dog!

I would love to know what people would say if Hamilton had pulled that move on Alonso because he would of done the exact same thing and Alonso would also of closed the door for sure.

    Undoubtely Schumacher.

Without DRS option I doubt Button and Webber would be able to pass him.

The Mercedes inabilities were obviously the limit.

    mmmkay let’s see.
Vettel: drove a perfect race, but I will remove one point for a mistake under pressure in the last lap, and three point for whinning like a crybaby because of the rain.
Alonso: extremely solid all weekend, did the wrong bet with tyres and ruined his own race.
Massa: extremely solid all weekend, did a wrong overtaking move over Narain and ruined his own race.
Ramilton: well, what can I say. The dude is fast but it seems to me that he needs a chill pill. A friggin joke, as he said.
    Button: flawless race, really.
Shumacher: flawless race. As much as I like Webber and despise the Kaiser, I hated it when Schumacher was overtaken and left out of the podium. He deserved it.
Webber: not really an exciting race, plagued by problems.
Kobayashi: did the right bet with the pitstop strategy and was second for many laps with a lesser car. The ridiculous DRS thingy deprived him of a 6th position.
so, for me it was Button, Schumacher and Kobayashi.

Hamilton has more votes than Alguersuari??? Is this a joke or did the Hamilton family register last week!?

MSC first for impressive driving, Alguersuari second for great come back from 24th to 8th. Well done Jaime!

JB – happy he got to beat Vettel and very lucky.
He’s clearly being favoured in the team vs Hamilton with the new development: the innovative protective shield

For the majority of the race my driver of the day was Michael Schumacher for putting that Mercedes in a position it had no business being in. His was a great drive of the quality we became used to seeing years ago, but then along came Jenson Button. He blew them all out of the water really, to come from so far back and win like he did was all very Kimi Raikkonenesque wasn’t it? You don’t see too many victories like Jenson’s, it made for a classic race and I was really pleased for the guy!
