Final practice for the Canadian Grand Prix was abandoned after Kevin Magnussen crashed at turn seven with a quarter of an hour to go.
The Renault driver’s car snapped sideways under acceleration at the exit of the corner and made heavy contact with the barrier. Magnussen was able to get out of his car but was taken away by the medical team. A piece of his car’s bodywork appeared to be lodged in the wall following the impact.
The session had already been disrupted by a light rain shower which sent most drivers back into the pits shortly after half an hour into it. Carlos Sainz Jnr had just reported the track had dried when Magnussen had his crash.
Prior to then Ferrari, Mercedes and Red Bull had exchanged the quickest times during the session. Sebastian Vettel set the quickest time of the weekend so far with a 1’13.919 on the ultra-soft compound.
The Red Bull drivers showed strong pace on the harder super-soft tyre earlier in the session and Max Verstappen ended the session second overall, within a quarter of a second of Vettel.
Mercedes could only manage third-quickest and their two drivers were separated by just 18 thousandths of a second. However the pair were nonetheless split by the second Ferrari of Kimi Raikkonen. Lewis Hamilton, quickest in practice yesterday, was the only driver who failed to improve on his time from Friday.
Sainz was seventh-quickest while team mate Daniil Kvyat spun at turn three, though without making contact with the wall. Fernando Alonso was the quickest of the McLarens in eighth places, with Sergio Perez and Felipe Massa joining him in the top ten.

Picking predictions is an absolute nightmare. No idea what the weather will do. Four guys who genuinely look as if they could be on pole in the dry. Who knows about the rain? As for the race? It’s anybody’s guess.

I hope we don’t get any rain today now, it is going to be by far the most unpredictable qualifying session of the season, close and literally any one of the top 6 drivers could take it

If i see the radar rain starts on 5pm till 8pm around 6.45 – 7pm is a moment of cleared of rain. So it will be raining drying a bit at the end so i gave a time of 1:18 for polepostion for the wet track. I think the beter rain driver will be in front.

Bottas would shine, if rains.
He was P3 here in a dog car in his debut season.

The problem is V6-engined Williams is a dog of a car in rain. Bottas struggled in wet conditions many times rather than taking advantage of them. Actually he and Massa are the last two drivers who would want rain for qualifying.

I don’t know what the weather is going to be in an hour but it looks so promising. Ferrari has been quick in Canada in recent times so I look forward to a good result. However, as always I am worried that Merc would turn it up.
